Reflections on the Spatial Exponential Growth of Electromagnetic Quasinormal Modes

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Quasinormal modes (QNMs) offer a robust framework for understanding the physics of resonators. However, conceptual challenges arise in regions distant from resonators, where QNM fields exponentially grow. This growth is not unphysical, but gives rise to counterintuitive effects, which is explained by examining fundamentals of non‐Hermitian systems ...

Real algebraic curves, the moment map and amoebas [PDF]

open access: yesAnn. of Math. (2) 151 (2000), no. 1, 309--326, 2000
In this paper we prove the topological uniqueness of maximal arrangements of a real plane algebraic curve with respect to three lines. More generally, we prove the topological uniqueness of a maximally arranged algebraic curve on a real toric surface.

Regularity and separation for Grušin‐type p‐Laplace operators

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
Abstract We analyze p‐Laplace type operators with degenerate elliptic coefficients. This investigation includes Grušin‐type p‐Laplace operators. We describe a separation phenomenon in elliptic and parabolic p‐Laplace type equations, which provide an illuminating illustration of simple jump discontinuities of the corresponding weak solutions ...

Algebraic vector bundles on the 2-sphere and smooth rational varieties with infinitely many real forms [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We construct smooth rational real algebraic varieties of every dimension $\ge$ 4 which admit infinitely many pairwise non-isomorphic real forms.

Angular distribution toward the points of the neighbor‐flips modular curve seen by a fast moving observer

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
Abstract Let h$h$ be a fixed non‐zero integer. For every t∈R+$t\in \mathbb {R}_+$ and every prime p$p$, consider the angles between rays from an observer located at the point (−tJp2,0)$(-tJ_p^2,0)$ on the real axis toward the set of all integral solutions (x,y)$(x,y)$ of the equation y−1−x−1≡hmodp$y^{-1}-x^{-1}\equiv h \left(\mathrm{ mod\;}p\right)$ in

Every orientable Seifert 3-manifold is a real component of a uniruled algebraic variety [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
We show that any orientable Seifert 3-manifold is diffeomorphic to a connected component of the set of real points of a uniruled real algebraic variety, and prove a conjecture of J\'anos Koll\'ar.

Improved effective Łojasiewicz inequality and applications

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma
Let $\mathrm {R}$ be a real closed field. Given a closed and bounded semialgebraic set $A \subset \mathrm {R}^n$ and semialgebraic continuous functions $f,g:A \rightarrow \mathrm {R}$ such that $f^{-1}(0) \subset g^{-1}(0 ...

Solving an Augmented Nonnegative Matrix Factorization Model by Modified Scaled Nonmonotone Memoryless BFGS Methods Devised Based on the Ellipsoid Vector Norm

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We suggest a modified version of the nonnegative matrix factorization problem, adding penalty terms to the model with the aim of taking control of the condition number of the decomposition elements. This measure is taken to reinforce computational stability in the solution path of the relevant optimization model.
