The development of systems that offer distributed services and interconnect devices impose some basic constraints for the applications. One of the main constraints are the time requirements for the execution of the task. Based on this constraint, on studies about the application of determinism in the execution of the Sun Microsystems' Java Virtual ...

A real-time Java server for Real-Time Mach [PDF]
The authors have developed a real-time Java server on the Real-Time Mach microkernel which is suitable for embedded systems and distributed real-time systems. By implementing it as a user-level server on Real-Time Mach, applications such as WWW browsers and embedded applications can both execute Java byte codes.

Real Java for real time - gain and pain
Proceedings of the international conference on Compilers, architecture, and synthesis for embedded systems - CASES '02, 2002The Java programming language, being a portable and safe object-oriented language, has gained much interest among embedded and real-time systems developers. However, standard Java implementations exhibit problems with performance, memory footprint, and predictability.

A real-time Java system on a multithreaded Java microcontroller
Proceedings Fifth IEEE International Symposium on Object-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing. ISIRC 2002, 2003This paper presents a real-time Java hardware and software system for use in embedded applications. The system includes a multithreaded Java microcontroller, an adapted Java Virtual Machine (JVH) and an extended application programming interface (API). The microcontroller core is designed with a multithreaded pipeline and hardware support for real-time
