Adaptive measurement rate setting method in block compressed sensing of images

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2014
Traditional block compressed sensing (BCS) of images uses the same measurement rate to measure each block, but some blocking artifacts appear in the reconstructed image on accounting of varying spatial characteristics in an image. This problem can be ...

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Distribution and Dynamics of Central-European Exchange Rates: Evidence from Intraday Data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates the behavior of the EUR/CZK, EUR/HUF and EUR/PLN spot exchange rates in the period 2002–2008, using 5-minute intraday data. The authors find that daily returns on the corresponding exchange rates scaled by model-free estimates of ...

Global analysis of the influence of environmental variables to explain ecological niches and realized thermal niche boundaries of sea snakes.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Understanding the factors affecting species distributions is a central topic in ecology and biogeography. However, most research on this topic has focused on species inhabiting terrestrial environments.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Insecticide Use and Crop Selection: A South Dakota Case Study [PDF]

open access: yes
South Dakota has recently experienced a significant increase in the proportion of acres treated with insecticide. Unfortunately, data on insecticide usage by crop at the county level is not available. The following case study seeks to uncover the reasons

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.
