A dialectical model of assessing conflicting arguments in legal reasoning

Artificial Intelligence and Law, 1996
Inspired by legal reasoning, this paper presents a formal framework for assessing conflicting arguments. Its use is illustrated with applications to realistic legal examples, and the potential for implementation is discussed. The framework has the form of a logical system for defeasible argumentation.

APPROXIMATE REASONING ABOUT PRIORITIES OF IMPRECISE CONFLICTING REQUIREMENTS

International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 1995
Elasticity in an imprecise requirement needs to be captured to enable the trade-off analysis of conflicting requirements. One of the most important issues in the trade-off analysis of conflicting requirements is to understand their priorities. Requirement analysts need to know not only the relative ordering of requirements based on their importance ...

Comments on Reason for Conflicting Results of Venography

Pathophysiology of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, 1993
Conflicting results of phlebography in the diagnosis of thrombosis in different investigations are discussed. The following factors may explain different results: phlebography is a subjective method, not based on measurable parameters; insufficient phlebographic technique may result in unsafe diagnosis; the selection of patient material may vary in ...

Levels of conflict in reasoning modulate right lateral prefrontal cortex

Brain Research, 2012
Right lateral prefrontal cortex (rlPFC) has previously been implicated in logical reasoning under conditions of conflict. A functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study was conducted to explore its role in conflict more precisely. Specifically, we distinguished between belief-logic conflict and belief-content conflict, and examined the role of ...
