Sample Size Estimation using the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper we describe two related approaches to estimating the sample sizes required to statistically compare the performance of two classifiers: acceptable failure rates (AFR) and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC)

Receiver Operating Characteristic Prediction for Classification: Performances in Cross-Validation by Example

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
The stability of receiver operating characteristic in context of random split used in development and validation sets, as compared to the full models for three inflammatory ratios (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR), derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (dNLR ...

Plasma-derived phosphoglycerate mutase 5 as a biomarker for Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2022
BackgroundWe aimed to examine whether plasma-derived phosphoglycerate mutase 5 (PGAM5) can be a biomarker for Parkinson’s disease (PD) diagnosis as well as its association with the severity of motor/non-motor manifestations of PD.MethodsWe enrolled 124 ...

Non Parametric ROC Summary Statistics

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2022
Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves are useful statistical tools for medical diagnostic testing. It has been proved its capability to assess diagnostic marker’s ability to distinguish between healthy and diseased subjects and to compare ...

Instantaneous Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) Performance of Multi-Gain-Stage APD Photoreceivers

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2013
We describe the use of analytical and numerical models of a multi-gain-stage single-carrier multiplication (SCM) avalanche photodiode (APD) to generate time-resolved receiver operating-characteristic (ROC) curves.

A Rapid Motor Task-Based Screening Tool for Parkinsonism in Community-Based Studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2021
Background: The prevalence of parkinsonism in developing countries is largely unknown due to difficulty in ascertainment because access to neurologists is often limited. Objective: Develop and validate a parkinsonism screening tool using objective motor ...

Resilience Family of Receiver Operating Characteristic Curves

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2023
A new semiparametric model of the ROC curve based on the resilience family or proportional reversed hazard family is proposed which is an alternative to the existing models. The resulting ROC curve and its summary indices (such as area under the curve (AUC) and Youden index) have simple analytic forms.

Estimation and Comparison of Receiver Operating Characteristic Curves [PDF]

open access: yesThe Stata Journal: Promoting communications on statistics and Stata, 2009
The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve displays the capacity of a marker or diagnostic test to discriminate between two groups of subjects, cases versus controls. We present a comprehensive suite of Stata commands for performing ROC analysis. Nonparametric, semiparametric, and parametric estimators are calculated. Comparisons between curves

Identifying Cancer-Related Cognitive Impairment Using the FACT-Cog Perceived Cognitive Impairment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is a concerning problem for many cancer survivors. Evaluating patients for CRCI has been a challenge, in part because of a lack of standardized practices.
