[8] methods for studying the platelet-derived growth factor receptor
1985Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the factors that affect [ 125 I] platelet-derived growth factory (PDGF) binding, or the evaluation of binding, on the evidence that the observed binding is to a functional receptor and on the development of a radioreceptor assay for PDGF. It is a basic 30,000-dalton protein.

Structural and functional aspects of the receptors for platelet-derived growth factor
Progress in Growth Factor Research, 1989Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a 30 kDa dimer of disulfide-bonded A and B chains. Three isoforms of PDGF have been isolated (PDGF-AA, PDGF-AB and PDGF-BB). These bind with different affinities and specificities to two structurally related cell surface receptors, viz. the alpha-receptor and the beta-receptor.

Regulation of chemotaxis by the platelet-derived growth factor receptor-β
Nature, 1994Chemotaxis is an important component of wound healing, development, immunity and metastasis, yet the signalling pathways that mediate chemotaxis are poorly understood. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) acts both as a mitogen and a chemoattractant. Upon stimulation, the tyrosine kinase PDGF receptor-beta (PDGFR-beta) autophosphorylates and forms a ...

Caveolin Is an Inhibitor of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Signaling
Experimental Cell Research, 1999Caveolin is a major structural component of caveolae and has been implicated in the regulation of the function of several caveolae-associated signaling molecules. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptors and caveolin were colocalized in the same subcellular fraction after sucrose density gradient fractionation of fibroblasts.

The phenotypic consequences of null mutations in the platelet-derived growth factor-B and the platelet-derived growth factor beta-receptor genes in mice have demonstrated that these proteins play pivotal roles in the development of the vascular smooth muscle cell lineage, including pericytes and mesangial cells. The lethality of these mutants has ...

Receptors for platelet-derived growth factor on microvascular endothelial cells
1992Endothelial cells are widely thought to be unresponsive to platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and devoid of PDGF receptors. However, in examining the growth factor responses of microvascular endothelial cells isolated from human omental adipose tissue, we detected PDGF-induced tyrosine phosphorylation of an 180-kD glycoprotein, subsequently ...

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor B Type Receptor
1990Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a major mitogen in serum for connective tissue cells (for reviews, see Heldin et al., 1985; Ross et al., 1986). The in vivo function of PDGF is not known. However, the fact that PDGF is released from platelets in conjunction with the blood coagulation and stimulates not only proliferation, but also chemotaxis ...
