Juno Observations of Ion‐Inertial Scale Flux Ropes in the Jovian Magnetotail

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
Two ion‐inertial scale magnetic flux ropes are identified in the Juno magnetic field measurements in the dawnside Jovian magnetotail. Previously reported plasmoids in this region had typical diameters of several Jovian radii (RJ).

Viscous Effects on Nonlinear Double Tearing Mode and Plasmoid Formation in Adjacent Harris Sheets

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2023
In this paper, we study the effects of viscosity on the evolution of the double tearing mode (DTM) in a pair of adjacent Harris sheets based on the resistive MHD model in the NIMROD code.

Electron Signatures of Reconnection in a Global eVlasiator Simulation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
Geospace plasma simulations have progressed toward more realistic descriptions of the solar wind–magnetosphere interaction from magnetohydrodynamic to hybrid ion‐kinetic, such as the state‐of‐the‐art Vlasiator model.

Emission Mechanisms of Fast Radio Bursts

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are recently discovered mysterious single pulses of radio emission, mostly coming from cosmological distances (∼1 Gpc). Their short duration, ∼1 ms, and large luminosity demonstrate coherent emission.

Generation of a Strong Parallel Electric Field and Embedded Electron Jet in the Exhaust of Moderate Guide Field Reconnection

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
Magnetospheric Multiscale observed an extended current layer concurrent with a strong parallel electric field. The current layer is embedded in the reconnection exhaust and is consistent with an extended magnetized jet expected in roughly symmetric ...

Multi-Wavelength Observations of a Failed Filament Eruption and Associated Hovered Coronal Mass Ejection

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
Failed filament eruption remains mysterious on its initiation, magnetic environment, and erupting and failing mechanisms. We present multi-wavelength observations of a failed filament eruption and its associated hovered coronal mass ejection (hovered-CME)

Asymmetric magnetic reconnection with a flow shear and applications to the magnetopause [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We perform a theoretical and numerical study of anti-parallel 2D magnetic reconnection with asymmetries in the density and reconnecting magnetic field strength in addition to a bulk flow shear across the reconnection site in the plane of the reconnecting

Electron‐Scale Reconnecting Current Sheet Formed Within the Lower‐Hybrid Wave‐Active Region of Kelvin‐Helmholtz Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
We present Magnetospheric Multiscale observations of an electron‐scale reconnecting current sheet in the mixing region along the trailing edge of a Kelvin‐Helmholtz vortex during southward interplanetary magnetic field conditions.

Recirculation of plasmasphere material during idealized magnetic storms

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
The fate of flux tube material once it is eroded from of the plasmasphere through a dayside plume remains unknown. The eroded plasmasphere material can be either swept away by the solar wind and lost from Earth’s system, or recirculated into the inner ...

Colour reconnection in e+e- -> W+W- at sqrt(s) = 189 - 209 GeV [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The effects of the final state interaction phenomenon known as colour reconnection are investigated at centre-of-mass energies in the range sqrt(s) ~ 189-209 GeV using the OPAL detector at LEP.
