Impact of hunting modality on social contacts in wild boar populations across Europe

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study showcases how hunting disturbance influences social contact rates in a group‐living wild mammal. Along with other biotic and abiotic drivers, hunting modality plays a significant role in shaping intra‐group, but not inter‐group, contacts. Reduced group cohesion induced by drive hunts could negatively impact survival, foraging efficiency and ...

Testing the human shield hypothesis: Female wild turkeys have greater fitness near human activity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our findings indicate that human activity can create a protective shield that deters predators and enhances survival and reproduction for prey species of conservation concern. Because habitat work on public lands often occurs in areas accessible to heavy machinery, such as secondary roads, managers can pair habitat manipulations with regular, light ...

Impacts of diffuse pressure complexes complicate conservation and management of benthic marine habitats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our results suggest that pressures in marine ecosystems often arise from numerous seemingly minor activities that collectively contribute to substantial habitat degradation. They underscore the urgent need to develop more targeted, local management measures that address detrimental small‐scale activities.

Comparing the success and failure of the Murray–Darling Basin Plan's water recovery programs

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Public Administration, EarlyView.
Abstract The Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) Plan is held up by some as an exemplar for world‐leading water policy, whilst others have called it a failure. Total proposed recovery was to return 3200 GL of consumptive (e.g. namely irrigation) water use to non‐consumptive (e.g.

Spatial Myopia, Financial Hubs and the ‘Golden Triangle’: Tracing the Uneven Landscape of International Equity Investments in the UK

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract The entrepreneurial finance literature has hitherto largely neglected the role of non‐Indigenous equity finance across different territorial jurisdictions. Invoking the concept of spatial myopia, this paper examines the role played by this specialist form of finance within different locations and how a firm's relative geographic location ...
