Crohn's disease in an isolated rectal stump
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1980A case is reported which illustrates the development of Crohn's disease in an isolated rectal stump occurring four-and-a-half years after subtotal colectomy for multiple polyposis coli. There was no evidence of more proximal small-bowel or colonic Crohn's disease. To our knowledge no similar occurrence has been reported in the literature.

Urethroperineal-rectal fistula in Crohn's disease
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1983A 19-year-old white male with Crohn's disease, who complained of passing urine per rectum and having retrograde ejaculations, was noted to have a urethroperineal-rectal fistula. The fistulous communication remained patent despite pharmacologic therapy, a diversion ileostomy, and a total proctocolectomy.

Rectal fold thickness as an indicator of disease
Clinical Radiology, 1983Rectal folds are seen best in the lateral view. Normal values for the thickness of the folds have been established by measuring these in patients with a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome who had no evidence of rectal disease. In severe ulcerative colitis the valves disappear, but they are present earlier in the disease.
