Frailty Recovery Following Minimally Invasive Surgery: An Emerging Perspective on Surgical Benefits in Elderly Colorectal Cancer Patients

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This prospective study investigated the impact of MIS on frailty and outcomes in elderly CRC patients. While frail patients showed lower OS, MIS was safely performed. Among recurrence‐free patients, frailty status improved at 1 year, suggesting that curative surgery may offer not only oncologic benefits but also potential for frailty improvement ...

Integrating Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors With Total Neoadjuvant Therapy in Proficient Mismatch Repair Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
The key to unlocking ICI benefit in pMMR/MSS LARC is to convert “cold” tumors into “hot” ones through lymphocyte‐sparing SCRT and judicious chemotherapy, creating a milieu in which ICIs can act effectively. ABSTRACT The management of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) has evolved with the adoption of total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT), integrated ...

Impact of Low Preoperative Prognostic Immune Nutritional Index on Survival and Postoperative Infectious Complications in Patients With Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim The prognostic immune nutritional index (PINI) is increasingly recognized for its potential clinical utility. However, multifaceted evaluations of its ability to predict oncological outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its association with postoperative infectious complications remain limited.

Developing a Clinician‐Friendly Online Dynamic Nomogram for Survival Prediction in Colon Cancer Patients

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study developed a user‐friendly online dynamic nomogram using Bayesian model averaging to predict survival in colon cancer patients. Drawing on data from over 2400 cases, the model demonstrated strong predictive accuracy and was externally validated, offering a practical tool to support personalised clinical decision‐making.
