Rectal endosonography in the evaluation of stenotic rectal tumors

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1993
Preoperative evaluation of stenotic rectal tumors is important since they often involve adjacent organs and thus may require additional therapy. Previous reports on endosonographic staging have excluded stenotic tumors because they could not be fully visualized with the available equipment. In this study, we have evaluated the role of endosonography in

RECTAL PRIMITIVE NEUROECTODERMAL TUMOR

Pediatric Pathology & Molecular Medicine, 2003
We report the clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings of a Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor (ES/PNET) localized to the rectum in a 17-year-old boy. Notably the 4.5 x 4 x 4-cm sessile mass was spontaneously eliminated through the anus, producing an episode of hemorrhagic shock.

Treatment of rectal carcinoid tumors

The American Journal of Surgery, 1990
We investigated the treatment of 24 rectal carcinoid tumors from both the clinicopathologic and prognostic viewpoints. All tumors less than 2 cm in diameter had neither muscle layer invasion nor lymph node metastasis, except for an atypical carcinoid tumor that had both lymphatic permeation and intramural metastasis.

Tumor angiogenesis and rectal carcinoma

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1994
This study was designed to determine whether those rectal cancers that demonstrated increased vessel ingrowth or angiogenesis behave in a different fashion. The paraffin blocks of 48 rectal cancers removed by low anterior or abdominoperineal resection were recalled and immunostained with a monoclonal antibody specific for endothelial cell Factor VIII ...

Endoscopic Microsurgery of Rectal Tumors

Endoscopy, 1987
Seventy-five patients with sessile adenomas or early carcinomas of the rectum or rectosigmoid were operated on with the new technique "transanal endoscopic microsurgery" Employing a newly developed complex endoscopic operating system, complete removal of sessile adenomas can be accomplished up to a distance of 25 cm from the anal verge, accurately and ...

Transrectal ultrasound of rectal tumors

The American Journal of Surgery, 1993
Since preoperative staging of rectal tumors is important in planning treatment, we evaluated transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) staging of rectal neoplasms. In 35 consecutive rectal tumors, we compared TRUS staging results with final pathologic staging. TRUS predicted the degree of tumor invasion in 19 of 24 patients (79%) and the presence or absence of ...

Local therapy of rectal tumors

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1996
The aim of the study is to outline the rising importance of local treatment of rectal tumors and a changing strategy in therapy of early rectal cancer. As the surgical procedure, transanal endoscopic microsurgery was used. Indications for the local procedure were pT1 low-risk tumors and tumors of higher stages in patients with severe risk factors and of

Endoluminal Radiotherapy for Rectal Tumors

Oncology, 1998
The present study was performed to evaluate local tumor control and side effects of endoluminal radiotherapy given to patients with rectal tumors. Twelve patients with adenocarcinoma and 10 patients with villous/adenovillous adenomas were treated with curative intent from 1989 to 1995.

Rectal mucosectomy in the treatment of giant rectal villous tumors

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1995
Rectal mucosectomy, a technique adapted from restorative proctocolectomy, has been used to treat large rectal villous tumors. We compared morbidity, tumor control, and functional outcome following rectal mucosectomy with the results of more conventional transanal excision and piecemeal snaring and fulguration in patients with large rectal villous ...

MRI of Extramural Venous Invasion in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer: Relationship to Tumor Recurrence and Overall Survival.

Radiology, 2018
Purpose To study the relationship between MRI-defined extramural venous invasion (EMVI) prior to treatment and prognosis in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy-radiation therapy followed by surgery ...
