COUPLED VIBRATORY CHARACTERISTICS OF A RECTANGULAR CONTAINER BOTTOM PLATE

Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2000
The natural frequencies of an elastic thin plate placed into a rectangular hole and connected to the rigid bottom slab of a rectangular container filled with fluid having a free surface are studied. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, inviscid and irrotational, and the effect of surface waves is neglected.

Marangoni convection in a rectangular container

Forschung im Ingenieurwesen, 1998
If the free liquid-gas interface of a liquid in a rectangular Container is subjected to a temperature gra-dient the shear stress on the free liquid surface being temperature dependent transmits by viscous traction a thermo-capillary convection into the bulk of the liquid.

Liquid sloshing in rectangular road containers

Computers & Fluids, 1992
Abstract A study of liquid behaviour in rectangular road containers undergoing a turning or braking manoeuvre is presented and discussed. The steady-state solution in terms of liquid heights, forces and overturning moments is derived analytically from the hydrostatic equations.

Seismic Response of Rectangular Liquid Container with Dual Horizontal Baffles on Deformable Soil Foundation

Journal of earthquake engineering, 2022
Seismic response of liquid sloshing in horizontally baffled rectangular container on deformable ground is evaluated. An equivalent mechanical model of baffled sloshing is developed.

Slow mixed convection in rectangular containers

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002
We consider the slow motion of viscous fluid completely filling a rectangular container. The motion is generated by the combined action of differential wall temperatures and the linear motion of the lid. If the relevant Reynolds and Péclet numbers and the lid speed are all small enough, the velocity field will be governed by an inhomogeneous ...

Molecular Channel Characterization for a Rectangular Container With Reflecting and Absorbing Boundaries

IEEE Communications Letters, 2020
The motion of molecules in a constrained fluid environment is defined by specified boundary conditions. Deriving analytical channel characterization of a bounded fluid environment is challenging as the solution must satisfy the given boundaries.

Effect of Vertical Elastic Baffle on Liquid Sloshing in Rectangular Rigid Container

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2021
Sloshing may induce adverse loads to cause structural instability and damage. A vertical elastic baffle mounted at the inside bottom of a rectangular container is used as an anti-slosh device to attenuate the liquid oscillation.

Nonlinearity of Finite-Amplitude Sloshing in Rectangular Containers

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2016
This paper investigates the influence exerted by small surface tension on the nonlinear normal sloshing modes of a two-dimensional irrotational, incompressible fluid in a rectangular container. To this end, the influence of surface tension on the modal frequencies is investigated by assuming pure slipping at the contact line and a 90 deg contact angle ...

Parametrically forced stably stratified flow in a three-dimensional rectangular container

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2020
The dynamics of a stably and thermally stratified fluid-filled cavity harmonically forced in the vertical direction, resulting in a periodic gravity modulation, is studied numerically.

Seismic Response of Asymmetric Rectangular Liquid-Containing Structures

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2012
AbstractA new formulation to investigate the seismic response of symmetric and asymmetric rectangular liquid-containing structures is developed and validated in this paper. The proposed method is based on a substructuring approach, where the flexible liquid-containing structure is modeled using finite elements, while the impulsive effects of the fluid ...
