Buckling of rectangular mindlin plates
Computers & Structures, 1982Abstract The elastic buckling of rectangular Mindlin plates is considered using two related methods of analysis. These methods are the Rayleight-Ritz method and one of its piece-wise forms, the finite strip method. Arbitrary combinations of the standard boundary conditions of clamped, simply-supported and free edges are accommodated by the use in the

Secondary States of Rectangular Plates
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1980The secondary buckling of rectangular elastic plates is studied as a problem of secondary bifurcation. The nonlinear von Karman plate theory is used in the analysis. The secondary bifurcation points, and the secondary states that bifurcate from them are determined by a previously developed perturbation method.

Rectangular Functionally Graded Plates
2021This chapter presents a few exact and numerical solutions of rectangular FGM plates with various gradations of their material properties. Firstly, some analytical solutions of rectangular plates, made of isotropic FGMs, in cylindrical bending are presented in Sect. 5.1.

Cross Ribbed Rectangular Plates
Mechanics of Structures and Machines, 1989Abstract In engineering practice, plates are often reinforced by ribs or stringers that introduce structural anisotropy. Consequently, classical plate theory for isotropic plates must be modified to account for this anisotropy. The response of such plate structures is described analytically by the theory of orthotropic plates, provided that the plate ...

A uniform rectangular plate is arranged so that it oscillates in its own plane around either one of two axes, one at the center of each edge. The analysis shows that there is a particular ratio of the lengths of the two sides (in addition to unity) for which the two periods are equal, and still another ratio giving the minimum period.

Hydroelastic Vibration of Rectangular Plates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1996This paper is concerned with the virtual mass effect on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of rectangular plates due to the presence of the water on one side of the plate. The approximate formula, which mainly depends on the so-called nondimensionalized added virtual mass incremental factor, can be used to estimate natural frequencies in water ...

Vibrations of Free Rectangular Plates
Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section B, 1949Records theta are given of the normal vibrating modes and frequencies of free rectangular plates between the limiting shapes of the bar and the square. The nodal systems, which in general consist of straight lines parallel to the sides, are, from considerations of symmetry, divided into four classes.

Flow-Induced Bending of Rectangular Plates
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1977An analysis of flow-induced bending of rectangular plates simply supported on two sides and free on the leading and trailing edges, with viscous entry flows differing in flow rate on top and bottom, is presented. Viscous shear is shown to be important in modifying the plate deflection near the leading edge.

We focus on special aspects of the theory of thin plates by discussing a state of constant bending curvature in Section 5.1 and a panel of constant torsion in Section 5.2. In Section 5.3 we show the effectiveness of a square simplysupported plate subject to a distributed load. In Section 5.4 we discuss the special case of a twist-less plate.

On the vibrations of rectangular plates
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1991SynopsisWe prove that, for every non-empty open subset of a rectangular plate, there exists a positive number T such that no vibration of this plate with fixed edges can remain strictly above the rest position at all points of the subset during a period T.
