Innervation of the Rectus Abdominis Muscle
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1988The usefulness of leaving lateral strips of the rectus abdominis muscle in place during a transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap procedure is questioned. Since textbooks do not agree on the course of the intercostal nerves in the rectus fascia and no precise description is given of the exact site of penetration of the nerves in the ...

Rupture of the Rectus Abdominis Muscle
Archives of Surgery, 1965RUPTURE OF the rectus abdominis muscle, or apoplexy of the deep epigastric artery, was known to physicians of antiquity, but its early recognition has challenged the diagnostic acumen of clinicians of our time. The following is a case report and attempt to evaluate new diagnostic measures and symptomatic clues, which should save the physician from the ...

Injury to the Rectus abdominis as it inserts onto the pubic symphysis is one of the many diagnoses associated with "groin pain" and problems around the hip. Isolating this part of the problems that can contribute to symptoms in this region is often a diagnostic challenge and frequently only part of the management of patients with symptoms in the region.

The rectus abdominis flap is a versatile, workhorse flap. It is ideal for head and neck reconstruction requiring large, soft tissue bulk without bony reconstruction, particularly for defects of the tongue, orbits, maxilla, cheek, posterior mandible, and cranial base. Its ability to be folded upon itself and harvested with multiple skin paddles makes it

In 1974, an upper transverse abdominal flap for breast reconstruction was described by Tai and coworkers, who gave the first description of this myocutaneous flap based on the deep superior epigastric vessels and their perforating vessels through the rectus muscle [515].

Diastasis rectus abdominis is a common condition, which may be mistaken for a ventral hernia. The literature is generally of poor quality. The evidence for the effect of conservative and surgical treatment is controversial and long-term results are unknown.

Since its description in 1982 by Hartrampf, this technique of reconstruction has gained great popularity, due mainly to its major advantage: the possibility of reconstructing a breast of satisfactory size and natural consistency without the help of supplementary prosthetic material.
