A 31-year-old woman presented with complaints of increasingly severe right lower quadrant discomfort that had occurred for several days each month over the course of the previous 6 months. A tender mass of the abdominal wall was palpated on physical examination, and subsequent ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging disclosed a discrete mass of ...

Because of the lack of agreement on when rectus diastasis (RD) is pathologic, the aim was to investigate indications for surgical repair. This study presents classifications of RD, current knowledge on the relation to pregnancy, and conservative and surgical management.

Hematoma of the Rectus Abdominis Muscle
Archives of Surgery, 1970This condition was originally described as a clinical entity by Richardson 1 in 1857. More than a century later Jones and Merendino found reports of 250 such cases in the world literature and reported four cases of their own. 2 Recently, several more cases have been described by various groups of authors.

Injury to the Rectus abdominis as it inserts onto the pubic symphysis is one of the many diagnoses associated with "groin pain" and problems around the hip. Isolating this part of the problems that can contribute to symptoms in this region is often a diagnostic challenge and frequently only part of the management of patients with symptoms in the region.

Innervation of the Rectus Abdominis Muscle
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1988The usefulness of leaving lateral strips of the rectus abdominis muscle in place during a transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap procedure is questioned. Since textbooks do not agree on the course of the intercostal nerves in the rectus fascia and no precise description is given of the exact site of penetration of the nerves in the ...
