Couple Control Model Implementation on Antagonistic Mono- and Bi-Articular Actuators [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Recently, robot assisted therapy devices are increasingly used for spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation in assisting handicapped patients to regain their impaired movements. Assistive robotic systems may not be able to cure or fully compensate impairments, but it should be able to assist certain impaired functions and ease movements.

Suction Feeding in Dendropsophus cerradensis Tadpoles: New Behavioral Observations and Morphological Traits in a Member of the D. microcephalus Group (Anura, Hylidae)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 5, May 2025.
The tadpole of Dendropsophus cerradensis exhibits an oral tube completely covered by external folds. The feeding behavior is characterized by an oral tube that protrudes exclusively during predation. This macrophagy feeding is associated with a buccopharyngeal cavity reduced in features, robust mandibular and hyoid musculature, as well as a modified ...

Musculoskeletal mimics of lumbosacral radiculopathy

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 816-832, May 2025.
Abstract Electrodiagnostic evaluations are commonly requested for patients with suspected radiculopathy. Understanding lower extremity musculoskeletal conditions is essential for electrodiagnostic medicine specialists, as musculoskeletal disorders often mimic or coexist with radiculopathy.

Design and Evaluation of Torque Compensation Controllers for a Lower Extremity Exoskeleton [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In this paper, we present an integrated human-in-the-loop simulation paradigm for the design and evaluation of a lower extremity exoskeleton that is elastically strapped onto human lower limbs. The exoskeleton has 3 rotational DOFs on each side and weighs 23kg.

Aesthetic Reconstruction of Secondary Wounds after Extended Resection of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans: A Retrospective Study in One Center

open access: yesJournal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare soft tissue malignancy with aggressive growth. Objective To summarize the surgical treatment and results of DFSP based on a case series and literature review. Methods Seventeen DFSP cases were analyzed retrospectively at our hospital from June 2016 to December 2022, including 14 males

Effects of the Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation System on Heartburn, Regurgitation and Esophageal Acid Exposure in GERD Patients—An Uncontrolled Feasibility Study

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, Volume 37, Issue 5, May 2025.
Following TESS treatment, reported number of heartburn and regurgitation events in patients with GERD decreased by 68.3% and 78.5%, respectively. Esophageal AET and DeMeester score decreased by 74.5% (SD 31.9%) and 82.3% (SD 26.8%), respectively. TESS is a useful, safe device, effectively reduces both symptoms and AET in GERD patients.

Limited matching of the cardiac output response to the peripheral demand of heat stress and exercise

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 5, Page 722-734, 1 May 2025.
Abstract It is widely accepted that cardiac output matches the prevailing peripheral demand in healthy humans. However, it remains unknown whether stroke volume and heart rate are regulated interdependently to arrive at a specific cardiac output. The aim of this study was to determine whether the healthy human heart responds specifically according to ...

Scaling functional patterns of skeletal and cardiac muscles: New non-linear elasticity approach [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Responding mechanically to environmental requests, muscles show a surprisingly large variety of functions. The studies of in vivo cycling muscles qualified skeletal muscles into four principal locomotor patterns: motor, brake, strut, and spring.

Trunk muscle activity in healthy subjects during bridging stabilization exercises

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2006
Background Trunk bridging exercises are often used as therapeutic exercises for lumbopelvic stabilization. These exercises focus on the retraining of muscle coordination patterns in which optimal ratios between local segmental stabilizing and global ...
