British Journal of Plastic Surgery, 1989Sternal osteomyelitis complicates recovery in a small number of patients following median sternotomy. Techniques for operative treatment have in common the wide debridement of devitalised tissue and administration of culture-specific antibiotics.

Rupture of a blood vessel in the abdominal wall occurred, causing symptoms suggestive of an intra-abdominal pathologic condition. Mrs. M. R., aged 54, was admitted to the W. W. Backus Hospital, Aug. 21, 1931, complaining of pain in the lower part of the abdomen.

We have recently treated seven patients with free rectus abdominis muscle flaps. The rectus abdominis has several advantages over other muscles; these advantages simplify such reconstructions.
