Rectus abdominis muscle strains in tennis players [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Sports Medicine, 2007
Rectus abdominis muscle strains are common and debilitating injuries among competitive tennis players. Eccentric overload, followed by forced contraction of the non-dominant rectus abdominis during the cocking phase of the service motion is the accepted injury mechanism.

Dengue fever associated with a haematoma of the rectus abdominis muscle.

open access: yesCeylon Medical Journal, 2015
We describe a patient with dengue fever with a haematoma of the rectus abdominis muscle, due to a tear in the inferior epigastric artery following episodes of retching.

Microscopic and molecular aspects of skeletal muscle alterations in cerebral palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Cerebral palsy, caused by non‐progressive brain injury, is frequently accompanied by skeletal muscle alterations. This review synthesizes current evidence from muscle biopsy studies, revealing cellular and molecular adaptations in muscle tissue. Abstract Cerebral palsy (CP), the most prevalent childhood‐onset motor disability, frequently entails ...

New Use of an Absorbable Adhesion Barrier (INTERCEED) for Temporary Diverting Ileostomy in Minimally Invasive Rectal Surgery

open access: yesJournal of Coloproctology, 2022
Objectives Sometimes, severe adhesion occurs between the rectus abdominis muscle and the ileal intestinal limbs after temporary diverting ileostomy. This can make ileostomy reversal difficult.

Muscle activities of the rectus abdominis and rectus femoris and their ratio during leg raises performed by healthy adults

open access: yesJournal of Physical Therapy Science, 2015
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to analyze muscle activation during hip flexion in the supine position to examine the activation characteristics of the rectus abdominis and rectus femoris.

Effects of a 6‐week dynamic mobilisation exercise program on thoracolumbosacral kinematics in sports horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background Dynamic mobilisation exercises (DMEs) are prescribed to support locomotor function, but knowledge of their longitudinal effect on thoracolumbosacral (TLS) spinal kinematics is limited. Objectives To evaluate the effect of a 6‐week DME program on TLS kinematics during standing reflexes, walking and trotting.

Morphology and osteo‐histology of the weigeltisaurid wing: Implications for aerial locomotion in the world's first gliding reptiles

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This study investigates the morphology and osteo‐histology of the wing skeleton of the world's first gliding reptiles, showing how it differs from those of extant gliding lizards, yet is also convergently similar. These findings pave the way for future biomechanical studies on the gliding locomotion of these emblematic fossil animals. Abstract The Late

Rectus sheath pulsed radiofrequency treatment for anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome: A case report

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports
Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome is pain caused by compression of the anterior cutaneous branch of the intercostal nerve as it passes from the posterior sheath of the rectus abdominis muscle through the rectus abdominis muscle. In this report,

Development of the abdominal musculature in the chicken embryo

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
In this study, we investigate anatomy, morphogenesis, segmental origin, and fiber formation of the abdominal musculature in the chicken embryo. We show that abdominal muscles arise from somites 24 to 28, and that the segmental identity of individual fibers in the abdominal muscle sheets is maintained.
