Laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal approach for umbilical hernia with rectus diastasis
Asian Journal of Endoscopic Surgery, 2017AbstractIntroductionRectus diastasis, when coexistent with umbilical hernia, can benefit from mesh‐based repair of the midline. Laparoscopic correction of an umbilical hernia involves the placement of a mesh in the peritoneal cavity, but this comes with the risk of bowel complications. However, newly developed dual‐sided composite meshes have helped to

Nylon versus Polydioxanone in the Correction of Rectus Diastasis
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2001Nylon and polydioxanone are two sutures commonly used to correct rectus diastasis. Polydioxanone, as an absorbable suture, has the advantage of not being palpable in thin patients. Because several forces act against the plication, an absorbable suture would not be efficient in these cases.

Rectus diastasis is frequently seen in men above 60 years with BMI > 25 kg/m2 and physical inactivity. Men with rectus diastasis often present with a bulge during sit-ups, but besides cosmetic complaints, other symptoms are rare. First choice of treatment is weight loss and physical training with focus on activating m. transversus abdominis.

Long-Term Follow-Up of Correction of Rectus Diastasis
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2005Correction of rectus diastasis is a procedure performed by most surgeons during abdominoplasty. Diastasis rectus abdominis is a common condition, which may be mistaken for a ventral hernia. The literature is generally of poor quality. The evidence for the effect of conservative and surgical treatment is controversial and long-term results are unknown.
