Role of biofilm in children with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 2014
Recurrent respiratory tract infections (RRTIs) are very common in children and a major challenge for pediatricians. In the last few years, bacterial biofilms have been linked to RRTIs and antibiotic resistance, and have raised serious concerns regarding the therapeutic management of recurrent middle ear diseases, chronic rhinosinusitis, and recurrent ...

Subpopulation of adenoidal lymphocytes of recurrent infection in the upper respiratory tract

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 1980
A subpopulation of adenoidal lymphocytes was determined by the E- and EAC-rosetting techniques in order to study an immunological profile of adenoids in 61 children with recurrent otitis media, rhinosinusitis or recurrent tonsillitis. Though there was no significant difference in E- and EAC-rosette forming cells of adenoid tissues from children with ...

LEVAMISOLE IN PREVENTION OF RECURRENT UPPER-RESPIRATORY-TRACT INFECTIONS IN CHILDREN

The Lancet, 1976
70 children with chronically relapsing mild-to-severe upper-respiratory-tract infections during autumn and winter participated in a six month double-blind placebo-controlled trial: 38 of them received about 1-25 mg/kg of levamisole twice daily for two consecutive days every week, the others were given placebo.

Immunostimulation in recurrent respiratory tract infections therapy in children.

Archivum immunologiae et therapiae experimentalis, 1987
Selected immunologic parameters and effectivity of immunotherapy was evaluated in 117 children (12-month-10-year-1-old) suffering from recurrent respiratory tract infections. All the children displayed a profound depression of T lymphocytes number, which resemble the situation seen in AIDS patients. An increase of serum IgM concentration was also noted.

Microbial factors leading to recurrent upper respiratory tract infections

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1998
The treatment or prophylaxis of upper respiratory tract infections such as otitis media, sinusitis and tonsillitis with penicillins can generate bacterial resistance caused by production of beta-lactamase or changes in the penicillin-binding proteins. This resistance can spread in the community even to untreated individuals. The prevalence of resistant
