Randomly pivoted Cholesky: Practical approximation of a kernel matrix with few entry evaluations

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 78, Issue 5, Page 995-1041, May 2025.
Abstract The randomly pivoted Cholesky algorithm (RPCholesky) computes a factorized rank‐k$k$ approximation of an N×N$N \times N$ positive‐semidefinite (psd) matrix. RPCholesky requires only (k+1)N$(k + 1)N$ entry evaluations and O(k2N)$\mathcal {O}(k^2 N)$ additional arithmetic operations, and it can be implemented with just a few lines of code.

Gait Perception via Actual and Estimated Pneumatic Physical Reservoir Output

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2025.
The authors introduce a self‐estimated physical reservoir computing (SEPRC) model for improved gait perception in wearable power‐assist limb devices. The new approach enhances traditional PRC models by combining actual and estimated physical reservoir outputs for subsequence processing.

Adaptive Tracking Method for Time-Varying Underwater Acoustic Channel Based on Dynamic Gaussian Window

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The traditional recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is limited in highly dynamic and noisy underwater channels. To overcome this, we introduce the time-varying Gaussian sliding window-based RLS (VGSRLS) algorithm, designed for enhanced channel ...
