Tree-Cavity Denning of Güiña (<i>Leopardus guigna</i>) and Breeding Productivity From Camera Trap Records. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Tree cavities are critical habitats for numerous vertebrate species. We report the first evidence of güiña breeding in a tree cavity, with insights from camera trap surveys in south‐central Chile's temperate forests. These findings enhance our understanding of the species' natural history, breeding behavior, and habitat preferences.

Genetic Assignment at Different Geographical Levels: A Case Study in a Forest Tree Species (<i>Pinus pinaster</i> Ait.) Using SNP Markers. [PDF]

open access: yesEvol Appl
ABSTRACT Genetic markers can assist in the identification of the stock origin in different organisms. Comparative studies of forest tree provenances have demonstrated that forest tree populations differ in performance across environments and at multiple geographic levels: populations nested within regions nested within gene pools.

Kaolin foliar-application improves the photosynthetic performance and fruit quality of Verdejo grapevines

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2023
Currently there is an urgent need to adapt vineyards to climate change in order to maintain and improve the quality of wines. In this context, it has been shown that the creation of a film of mineral particles, such as kaolin, on the vegetation can ...

An Observation of Coordinated Collaboration in Wild Brown Skua (<i>Stercorarius antarcticus</i>). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We present the first video evidence of cooperative food processing in wild brown skuas (Stercorarius antarcticus) on the Antarctic Peninsula. Our observations show that pairs coordinated their actions over space and time, consistent with actively coordinated collaboration.

Ontogenetic shifts in wood anatomy and leaf traits in tropical dry forests. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary Trees experience changes in environmental conditions and biophysical constraints as they grow that may lead to shifts in functional traits. While ontogenetic shifts in leaf traits are relatively well understood, changes in wood anatomy traits from seedlings to adults are less clear, especially in tropical dry forests where drought strongly ...

Massive sequencing of Ulmus minor's transcriptome provides new molecular tools for a genus under the constant threat of Dutch elm disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Elms, especially Ulmus minor and Ulmus americana, are carrying out a hard battle against Dutch elm disease (DED). This vascular wilt disease, caused by Ophiostoma ulmi and O. novo-ulmi, appeared in the twentieth century and killed millions of elms across
