Abstract The blue shark Prionace glauca and the shortfin mako Isurus oxyrinchus are two large and highly migratory sharks inhabiting temperate and tropical waters worldwide that are heavily targeted by artisanal and industrial fisheries. The International Union for Nature Conservation classifies the blue shark and shortfin mako as ‘Near Threatened’ and

Abstract Species distribution models have been widely used in both terrestrial and marine systems, and applications have included invasive species management, evaluating potential effects of climate change, and conservation. Generally, only a single type of data can be accommodated within the model structures used, which may lead to higher uncertainty ...

Recent trends in abundance and fishing pressure of agency‐assessed small pelagic fish stocks
Abstract Small pelagic fishes are used for human consumption, fishmeal and fish oil. They constitute 25% of global fish catch and have been of considerable conservation concern because of their intermediate position in aquatic food webs, often being a dominant dietary component of marine predators. This paper provides an overview of trends in abundance

We use model projections to explore the timing and intensity in the distribution of marine fish stocks that are shared across the world's Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ). Our findings suggest that many shared stocks’ distribution and catch are expected to change in most EEZs by 2030.

Abstract Illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing poses a major threat to effective management of marine resources, affecting biodiversity and communities dependent on these coastal resources. Spatiotemporal patterns of industrial fisheries in developing countries are often poorly understood, and global efforts to describe spatial patterns of
