Alkali Activation of Glass for Sustainable Upcycling: An Overview

open access: yesCeramics
The recycling of glass presently poses several challenges, predominantly to the heterogeneous chemical compositions of various glass types, along with the waste glass particle size distribution, both of which critically influence the efficiency and ...

Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

Reshaping Buffalo\u27s Recycling Initiatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The city of Buffalo recycles approximately eight percent of its curbside waste per year. This is far below the national average of 27% and pales by comparison with cities such as San Francisco, which recycles at a rate of 72%.

Vinylic Addition Polynorbornene in Catalysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Vinylic addition polynorbornenes (VA-PNB) result from the insertion polymerization of norbornene or specific norbornene derivatives catalyzed by transition metal com- plexes. The VA-PNB skeleton is completely aliphatic and keeps the bicyclic structure of

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a

Fabrication of recyclable magnetic carbon material adsorbent from waste ion exchange resin

open access: yesWaste Management Bulletin
Recently, the circular economy aiming at recycle of waste as the raw material of new valuable products has attracted great interest. In this study the carbon material (CM) was obtained by carbonization of waste ion exchange resin (WIER) and the magnetic ...

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.
