New casting glass technique through the use of geopolymers [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
By using silicate inorganic binders and glass waste (colourless or coloured) it is possible to mould technical and artistic elements, which later can be hardened by means of high temperature processing.

Cementless building materials made from recycled plastic and sand/glass: a review and road map for the future

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Structural Engineering, 2022
Plastic and glass can be sorted using machines and recycled into new plastic and glass as opposed to producing them from raw materials. However, contaminated plastic and glass, as well as certain types of plastic and glass, cannot be recycled using ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Environmentally friendly use of rice husk ash and recycled glass waste to produce ultra-high-performance concrete

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The issue of environmental pollution is one of the most pressing concerns today. A number of measures need to be taken to reduce the effects of waste materials such as rice husks, glass, plastic, and other types of materials on the environment.

Piezoresistive Monitoring of Carbon Nanomaterial‐Reinforced Epoxy Composites Under Cyclic and Fatigue Loading: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon nanomaterial‐reinforced epoxy composites exhibit pronounced piezoresistive behavior, enabling intrinsic damage sensing under cyclic and fatigue loading. This review critically compares carbon nanotube and graphene systems, correlating filler content, percolation threshold, and gauge factor with sensing stability and damage evolution.

Shear Strength of Concrete Incorporating Recycled Optimized Concrete and Glass Waste Aggregates as Sustainable Construction Materials

open access: yesBuildings
While the development of sustainable construction materials, such as green concrete made from glass waste or recycled concrete aggregate, has been extensively researched, much of the existing work has focused narrowly on these two components.

In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...
