DEVELOPMENT DRIVERS OF WASTE RECYCLING IN NSUKKA URBAN AREA, SOUTHEASTERN NIGERIA [PDF]

open access: yes
This article examines drivers of waste recovery and recycling in the informal waste sector in Nsukka urban area of Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria. Data on socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of waste pickers and waste dealers in the area ...

Charge‐Polarized Ni─S4 Single‐Atom Sites Drive Selective Photoreforming of Poly(lactic acid) to Lactate and Hydrogen

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically dispersed Ni–S4 sites on CdS nanorods induce interfacial charge polarization, directing photogenerated electrons to H2 evolution and holes to selective ester‐bond cleavage of poly(lactic acid). Without sacrificial reagents, this charge‐coupled system produces lactate while suppressing overoxidation, achieving an H2 evolution rate of 41.74 ...

Research on the synthesis of lithium iron phosphate using vivianite prepared from municipal sludge

open access: yesScientific Reports
Sewage treatment facilities are widespread in cities throughout China, and municipal sludge, a byproduct of wastewater treatment, often leads to resource waste and secondary pollution.

Recycling waste plastics in developing countries: Use of low-density polyethylene water sachets to form plastic bonded sand blocks.

open access: yesWaste Management, 2018
In many developing countries low-density polyethylene (LDPE) sheets, bags and water sachets are a major waste problem because local collection and recycling systems do not exist.

Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

Environmentally persistent microbial contamination in agricultural soils: High risk of pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance

open access: yesEnvironment International
Persistent microbial contamination commonly occurs in the environment. However, the characteristics and associated risks remain largely unknown. The coexistence of virulence factor genes (VFGs) and “last-resort” antibiotic resistance genes (LARGs) on ...

A Flexible Inventory Model for Municipal Solid Waste Recycling [PDF]

open access: yes
Most of the United States have laws mandating the recycling of municipal solid waste (MSW). In order to comply, municipalities recycle quotas of materials, without regard to fluctuating prices.

Lewis Acid Site Engineering in MOF‐Derived Aluminum Oxide/Carbon Composites for Dechlorination of Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Oil

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled carbonization of an Al‐MOF partially decomposes its linkers, exposing coordinatively unsaturated Al centers within an oxide/carbon composite. The resulting Lewis acid sites, rather than surface area, govern organochlorine capture: the composite removes chemically diverse organochlorines from waste plastic pyrolysis oil, outperforms a ...

Ultra‐Long Fluorescence and Phosphorescence From Crosslinked Chitosan for Food Humidity Sensing and Desiccation

open access: yesAggregate
Natural polysaccharides have recently attracted extensive attention due to their intrinsic clusteroluminescence afterglow properties. However, their intrinsic afterglow is phosphorescence‐dominated, owing to the large singlet–triplet energy gap inherent ...

Insights into Real Lignin Refining: Impacts of Multiple Ether Bonds on the Cracking of β-O-4 Linkages and Selectivity of Products

open access: yesMolecules
Depolymerizing lignin to produce high-value chemicals has garnered increasing attention. Given the complex structure of real lignin, the cracking efficiency of β-O-4 linkages and the selectivity of depolymerization products are significantly lower than ...
