The distance of M33 and the stellar population in its outskirts
We present deep V,I photometry of two $9.4' x 9.4' field in the outer regions of the M33 galaxy. We obtain a robust detection of the luminosity of the Red Giant Branch Tip (I{TRGB}=20.72 +- 0.08) from which we derived a new estimate of the distance ...

An empirical mass-loss law for Population II giants from the Spitzer-IRAC survey of Galactic globular clusters [PDF]
The main aim of the present work is to derive an empirical mass-loss (ML) law for Population II stars in first and second ascent red giant branches.

A fundamental chiroptical response amplification mechanism is revealed to massively enhance molecular helicene chiral emitters. The luminescent dissymmetry factor of the helicene emitter is amplified by 133 times through excited‐state hybridization with a polymeric chiral environment.

Li Evolution among Stars of Low/Intermediate Mass: the Metal-deficient Open Cluster NGC 2204
We have analyzed high-dispersion spectra in the Li 6708 Å region for 167 stars within the anticenter cluster NGC 2204. From 105 probable members, abundance analysis of 45 evolved stars produces [Fe/H] = −0.40 ± 0.12, [Si/Fe] = 0.14 ± 0.12, [Ca/Fe] = 0.29

Asteroseismology of KIC 8263801:Is it a member of NGC 6866 and a red clump star? [PDF]
We present an asteroseismic analysis of the Kepler light curve of KIC 8263801, a red-giant star in the open cluster NGC 6866 that has previously been reported to be a helium-burning red-clump star.

Utilizing a novel (Ni81Fe19/Ti)4/Cu/(Ni81Fe19/Ti)4 thin‐film multilayer with low coercive field, low damping and a superior GMI ratio, a compact, low‐noise unbiased FMR‐driven integrated GMI sensor with a superior magnetic noise performance of ≈100 pT/√Hz is first demonstrated, owing to reduced phase noise from well‐defined aligned magnetic domains and

The Rotation of Red Giants and Horizontal Branch Stars [PDF]
Rotation is one of the most important observable in stellar astrophysics driving strongly the evolution of stars. This review presents the main observational results on the rotation of Red Giant and Horizontal-Branch stars carried out along the past 50 years.

Human Schlafen 14 Cleavage of Short Double‐Stranded RNAs Underpins its Antiviral Activity
SLFN14 is associated with human diseases. SLFN14 is found to cleave RNAs containing short duplexes. The cryo‐EM structures of SLFN14 and SLFN14‐hairpin RNA complex reveal that SLFN14 assembles into a ring‐like dimer; two RNase domains form an RNA‐binding groove accommodating a hairpin RNA.
