Evolutionary and Observational Properties of Red Giant Acoustic Glitch Signatures
While solar-like oscillations in red giants have been observed at massive scales by the Kepler mission, few features of these oscillation mode frequencies, other than their global properties, have been exploited for stellar characterization.

Blue Stragglers After the Main Sequence [PDF]
We study the post-main sequence evolution of products of collisions between main sequence stars (blue stragglers), with particular interest paid to the horizontal branch and asymptotic giant branch phases.

Optimizing the tip of the red giant branch distance estimator [PDF]
Until very recently, our knowledge of the local peculiar velocity field has been severely hampered by the lack of reliable distance measurements. HST has dramatically changed this situation, allowing astronomers to obtain accurate distances to more than 150 nearby galaxies.

Epidemiological data confirm obesity elevates thoracic aortic dissection (TAD) risk. Patient analyses implicate hyperleptinemia, where leptin binding to vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) receptors triggers Socs3‐mediated suppression of Stat5a transcriptional activity.

On the Correlation Between Metallicity and the X-Shaped Morphology of the Milky Way Bulge
We demonstrate that failure to properly account for stellar evolution can bias results in determinations of the spatial morphology of Galactic bulge stars, focusing on the question of whether or not the X-shape is more pronounced among the more metal ...

Variations in Star Formation History and the Red Giant Branch Tip [PDF]
We examine the reliability of the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) as a distance indicator for stellar populations with different star formation histories (SFHs) when photometric errors and completeness corrections at the TRGB are small. In general, the TRGB-distance method is insensitive to the shape of the SFH except when it produces a stellar ...

Engineered Cas12j‐8 is a Versatile Platform for Multiplexed Genome Modulation in Mammalian Cells
Engineered through structure‐guided protein engineering, enCas12j‐8 significantly enhances the editing efficiency of compact Cas12j‐8 while maintaining high specificity. It enables efficient multiplexed genome editing and base editing using a single crRNA array, demonstrating broad applicability and therapeutic potential in genome engineering ...

BV Stellar Photometry of 23 Galactic Globular Clusters [PDF]
We report V-(B - V) CCD Color Magnitude Diagrams (CMDs) for 23 southern Galactic globular clusters. Limiting magnitudes for each cluster are between 18 and 20 magnitudes in V.

Non‐Amphiphilic Antimicrobial Polymers
Completely non‐amphiphilic antimicrobial polymers (APs) that possess significant bioactivity and excellent selectivity are presented. The importance of hydrogen‐bonding interactions is highlighted by segregation of APs on bacterial membrane models and bacteria, a behavior absent in amphiphilic polymers.

It has been shown quite recently (Morales-Rueda et al., 2003) that dB stars, extreme horisontal branch (EHB) objects in high probability all belong to binary systems.
