Topological Materials and Related Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This review covers topological materials—including topological insulators, quantum valley Hall and quantum spin Hall insulators, and topological Weyl and Dirac semimetals—as well as their most recent advancements in fields such as spintronics, electronics, photonics, thermoelectrics, and catalysis.

Radial Velocity Curves of Ellipsoidal Red Giant Binaries in the Large Magellanic Cloud [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ellipsoidal red giant binaries are close binary systems where an unseen, relatively close companion distorts the red giant, leading to light variations as the red giant moves around its orbit.

HIPPARCOS CALIBRATION OF THE TIP OF THE RED GIANT BRANCH [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2009
We have detected the tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB) in the solar neighborhood using near infrared photometry from the 2MASS and DIRBE catalogs, and revised Hipparcos parallaxes. We confirm that the revised Hipparcos parallaxes are superior to the original ones, and that this improvement is necessary to detect the TRGB.

“Intrapericardial Approach” for Venous Outflow Reconstruction in Living‐Donor Liver Transplantation for Budd‐Chiari Syndrome: Surgical Techniques and LongTerm Outcomes

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Unlike deceased‐donor liver transplantation, living‐donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for Budd‐Chiari Syndrome (BCS) presents distinctive challenges in hepatic venous (HV)‐outflow reconstruction because diseased HV–inferior vena cava (IVC) cannot be entirely replaced with healthy donor vessels.

BV Stellar Photometry of 23 Galactic Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1998
We report V-(B - V) CCD Color Magnitude Diagrams (CMDs) for 23 southern Galactic globular clusters. Limiting magnitudes for each cluster are between 18 and 20 magnitudes in V.

Revealing Protein–Protein Interactions Using a Graph Theory‐Augmented Deep Learning Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study presents a fast, cost‐efficient approach for classifying protein–protein interactions by integrating graph‐theory parametrization with deep learning (DL). Multiscale features extracted from graph‐encoded polarized‐light microscopy (PLM) images enable accurate prediction of binding strengths.

Clinical periodontal diagnosis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...

Physical interpretation of the oscillation spectrum on the red giant branch and the asymptotic giant branch

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. The high frequency resolution of the four-year time series collected by the space-borne telescope Kepler provides us the opportunity to study the seismic mode structure of highly luminous giants in great detail.

ON THE EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF PROGENITORS OF EHBS AND RELATED BINARY SYSTEMS BASED ON ANALYSIS OF THEIR OBSERVED PROPERTIES

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2007
It has been shown quite recently (Morales-Rueda et al., 2003) that dB stars, extreme horisontal branch (EHB) objects in high probability all belong to binary systems.
