Cyclic branched covers of alternating knots and $L$-spaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
For any alternating knot, it is known that the double branched cover of the $3$-sphere branched over the knot is an $L$-space. We show that the three-fold cyclic branched cover is also an $L$-space for any genus one alternating knot.

Color–Magnitude Diagram of NGC 205 and Its RR Lyrae Variables

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the deepest color–magnitude diagram (CMD) for NGC 205 in the F606W (≈ V ) and F814W (≈ I ) filters. Our archival Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys field is centered ∼3 $\mathop{.}\limits^{{\rm{^{\prime} }}}$ 8 northwest of the

Metallicity of Globular Cluster NGC 5053 from VI CCD Photometry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2001
Red giant branch shape and the luminosity of horizontal branch on the (V-I)-V CMD are used to derive the metallcity of the globular cluster NGC 5053. The metallicities of NGC 5053 derived by SMR method ([Fe/H]=-2.62+-0.07) and the relation between [Fe/H]

Popular Branchings and Their Dual Certificates [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Let $G$ be a digraph where every node has preferences over its incoming edges. The preferences of a node extend naturally to preferences over branchings, i.e., directed forests; a branching $B$ is popular if $B$ does not lose a head-to-head election (where nodes cast votes) against any branching.

Bioactives From Brown Algae: Antioxidant, Anti‐Inflammatory, Anticancer, and Antimicrobial Potential

open access: yesChemBioEng Reviews, EarlyView.
This review explores key bioactives in brown algae and their antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, anticancer, and antimicrobial properties. Covering studies from 2014 to 2024, it highlights their relevance in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and foods, while addressing challenges and future directions to unlock their full potential.

Spermidine supplementation influences mitochondrial number and morphology in the heart of aged mice

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 242, Issue 1, Page 91-101, January 2023., 2023
Aging was associated with hypertrophy of left venticular myocardium in mice without an increase in mitochondrial number. Spermidine treatment increased the number of cardiomyocyte mitochondria significantly. The three‐dimensional ultrastructure of mitochondria showed signs of disarrangement in aged mice which was reduced by spermidine treatment ...

Height process for super-critical continuous state branching process [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We define the height process for super-critical continuous state branching processes with quadratic branching mechanism. It appears as a projective limit of Brownian motions with positive drift reflected at 0 and a>0 as a goes to infinity. Then we extend the pruning procedure of branching processes to the super-critical case.

Low-dimensional lonely branching random walks die out [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The lonely branching random walks on ${\mathbb Z}^d$ is an interacting particle system where each particle moves as an independent random walk and undergoes critical binary branching when it is alone. We show that if the symmetrized walk is recurrent, lonely branching random walks die out locally.
