Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Study to compare hematological parameters in alcoholic and non-alcoholic individuals

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2019
Background: Alcoholism represents one of the most serious worldwide socioeconomic health problems. It is one of the leading causes of preventable mortality, second only to cigarette smoking.

Nucleated red blood cell count at birth as an index of perinatal brain damage

open access: yes, 1999
OBJECTIVE: The prognostic value of the nucleated red blood cell count at birth with respect to perinatal brain damage and neonatal outcome was assessed in infants at high risk of having neurologic damage.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Concentration of white blood cells from whole blood by dual centrifugo-pneumatic siphoning with density gradient medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Due to the pervasiveness of HIV infections in developing countries there exists a need for a low-cost, user-friendly point-of-care device which can be used to monitor the concentration of T-lymphocytes in the patient’s blood expressing the CD4+ epitope ...

IdentiCyte: Simple red blood cell identification software [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Counting and identifying red blood cells (RBCs) by shape is an important step in diagnosing several diseases and disorders. This is traditionally done by hand (a tedious and time consuming process) or with specialized equipment. There exist several tools

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
