Artificial Receptor in Synthetic Cells Performs Transmembrane Activation of Proteolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Transmembrane signaling is the hallmark of living cells and is among the highest challenges for the design of synthetic cells. Herein, an artificial receptor based on the chemistry of self‐immolative linkers is used to communicate information across the lipid bilayer, for transmembrane activation of enzymatic activity. Abstract The design of artificial,

Characterization and Optimization of Vesicle Properties in bioPISA: from Size Distribution to Post‐Assembly Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The paper explores the creation and characterization of vesicles through biocatalytic Polymerization‐Induced Self‐Assembly (bioPISA), focusing on achieving size uniformity using centrifugation techniques. It examines the effects of stirring speed on vesicle morphology and analyses the internal polymer‐rich structure using fluorescence correlation ...

Dependence of Multiband Absolute Magnitudes and Color Indexes of the Tip of the Red Giant Branch Stars on Metallicity in Galactic Globular Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) stars have attracted intensive attention in recent years because their I -band absolute magnitudes, M _I , are often used for distance calibration in the Hubble constant measurements because of its almost ...

Barium and iron abundances in red giants [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1990
An intermediate-dispersion abundance analysis has been carried out on a sample of 21 barium and 14 comparison stars. The excess of barium over iron has been used as the most representative indicator of peculiarity. These excesses are higher in the peculiar stars than in the nonpeculiar stars.

Light‐Triggered Protease‐Mediated Release of Actin‐Bound Cargo from Synthetic Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
TEV Prtoease‐mediated Releasable Actin‐binding Protein (TRAP) is a protein‐based platform consisting of a cargo tightly bound to reconstituted actin networks in synthetic cells which can be proteolyticly released from the bound actin, followed by its secretion through membrane translocation mediated by a cell‐penetrating peptide.

The Small Giant Clam, Tridacna maxima Exhibits Minimal Population Genetic Structure in the Red Sea and Genetic Differentiation From the Gulf of Aden

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
The Red Sea serves as a natural laboratory to investigate mechanisms of genetic differentiation and population dynamics of reef organisms due to its high species endemism.

Distinct Network Morphologies from In Situ Polymerization of Microtubules in Giant Polymer‐Lipid Hybrid Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The successful in situ polymerization of microtubules in giant polymer‐lipid hybrid vesicles is illustrated. The microtubules formed in the giant hybrid vesicles exhibit different morphologies including lumenal network formation and membrane association. Abstract Creating artificial cells with a dynamic cytoskeleton, akin to those in living cells, is a

Metallicity of Globular Cluster M13 from VI CCD Photometry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2000
From the VI images of M13, obtained by using 2K CCD camera and the BOAO 1.8m telescope, we derive the (V-I)-V CMD of M13. From the shapes of red giant branch, the magnitude of horizontal branch, and the giant branch bump on the constructed CMD, we ...

A Diagnostic for Localizing Red Giant Differential Rotation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present a simple diagnostic that can be used to constrain the location of the differential rotation in red giants with measured mixed mode rotational splittings. Specifically, in red giants with radii $\sim 4R_\odot$, the splittings of p-dominated modes (sound wave dominated) relative to those of g-dominated modes (internal gravity wave dominated ...
