ON LITHIUM-RICH RED GIANTS: ENGULFMENT ON THE GIANT BRANCH OF TRUMPLER 20 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2016
ABSTRACT The Gaia-ESO survey recently reported on a large sample of lithium (Li) abundance determinations for evolved stars in the rich open cluster Trumpler 20. They argue for a scenario where virtually all stars experience post-main-sequence mixing and Li is preserved in only two objects.

Atomically Resolved Acoustic Dynamics Coupled with Magnetic Order in a Van der Waals Antiferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetically coupled acoustic phonon modes (f1, f2, f3) are captured by ultrafast X‐ray diffraction in a prototypical van der Waals antiferromagnet FePS3, including their atomic displacement vectors (u) and the acoustic propagation wave vectors (k). Notably, the atomic displacement vector and amplitude of these modes, represented by the direction and ...

Dual Bipolar Resistive Switching in Wafer‐Scalable 2D Perovskite Oxide Nanosheets‐Based Memristor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A wafer‐scalable memristor based on 2D Sr2Nb3O₁₀ perovskite oxide nanosheets exhibits dual bipolar resistive switching through controllable oxygen ion migration and redox reactions. This single device enables both STDP and anti‐STDP synaptic functions, achieving 86.4% MNIST accuracy in supervised spiking neural networks, offering a compact, energy ...

BV Stellar Photometry of 23 Galactic Globular Clusters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1998
We report V-(B - V) CCD Color Magnitude Diagrams (CMDs) for 23 southern Galactic globular clusters. Limiting magnitudes for each cluster are between 18 and 20 magnitudes in V.

DEEP MIXING IN EVOLVED STARS. II. INTERPRETING Li ABUNDANCES IN RED GIANT BRANCH AND ASYMPTOTIC GIANT BRANCH STARS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2011
We reanalyze the problem of Li abundances in red giants of nearly solar metallicity. After outlining the problems affecting our knowledge of the Li content in low-mass stars (M ≤ 3 M ☉), we discuss deep-mixing models for the red giant branch stages suitable to account for the observed trends and for the correlated variations of the carbon isotope ratio;

Artificial Intelligence‐Driven Soft Bioelectronics for Self‐Powered Respiration Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence‐driven soft bioelectronics for self powered respiration monitoring based on triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs), and magnetoelastic generators (MEGs) enable continuous and multi‐scenario respiratory biomechanical data collection. Coupled with machine learning and big data driven diagnostics,

ON THE EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF PROGENITORS OF EHBS AND RELATED BINARY SYSTEMS BASED ON ANALYSIS OF THEIR OBSERVED PROPERTIES

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2007
It has been shown quite recently (Morales-Rueda et al., 2003) that dB stars, extreme horisontal branch (EHB) objects in high probability all belong to binary systems.

Mixed‐Phase TiO2 Nanotubes Enhance Ru Nanoparticle Activity for Hydrogen Evolution in pH‐Neutral Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
Efficient water electrolysis in NaBr electrolyte is achieved using TiO2 nanotube supports decorated with Ru nanoparticles. A cooperative “job‐sharing” effect between the TiO2 proton‐storage support that provides protons to the Ru catalyst enhances hydrogen evolution, minimizes Ru demand and polarization losses, and delivers stable performance ...

Enabling the study of gene function in gymnosperms: Virus‐induced gene silencing in Ephedra tweedieana

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise As the sister clade to angiosperms, extant gymnosperms are crucial for reconstructing ancestral gene regulatory networks in seed plants. This highlights the need for model systems representing each of their distinct lineages. However, tools to quickly and effectively investigate gene function in gymnosperms are still limited due to the
