Topology and geometry of the CfA2 redshift survey [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2000
We analyse the redshift space topology and geometry of the nearby Universe by computing the Minkowski functionals of the Updated Zwicky Catalogue (UZC). The UZC contains the redshifts of almost 20,000 galaxies, is 96% complete to the limiting magnitude m_Zw=15.5 and includes the Center for Astrophysics (CfA) Redshift Survey (CfA2).

A Universal Biomimetic Approach for Making Artificial Antigen‐Presenting Cells for T Cell Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows a biomimetic silica microcapsule (SMC) fabrication method under mild conditions for making artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs). Inspired by marine biomineralization, peptide‐mediated biosilicification enables silica shell formation on emulsion templates. The resulting SMCs possess a core–shell structure, controlled fluorescence

Designing an Optimal LSST Deep Drilling Program for Cosmology with Type Ia Supernovae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is forecast to collect a large sample of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) expected to be instrumental in unveiling the nature of dark energy.

Automated reliability assessment for spectroscopic redshift measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a new approach to automate the spectroscopic redshift reliability assessment based on machine learning (ML) and characteristics of the redshift probability density function (PDF).

PHOTOMETRIC REDSHIFTS FOR QUASARS IN MULTI-BAND SURVEYS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2013
MLPQNA stands for Multi Layer Perceptron with Quasi Newton Algorithm and it is a machine learning method which can be used to cope with regression and classification problems on complex and massive data sets. In this paper we give the formal description of the method and present the results of its application to the evaluation of photometric redshifts ...

Optical Whispering‐Gallery Mode as a Fingerprint of Magnetic Ordering in Van der Waals Layered CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel nanoscale optomagnetic sensing approach is developed using whispering‐gallery mode resonances in a self‐rolled‐up microcavity. This method enables ultra‐sensitive detection of weak magnetism by correlating resonance shifts with magnetic susceptibility.

The SSA22 H i Tomography Survey (SSA22-HIT). I. Data Set and Compiled Redshift Catalog

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We conducted a deep spectroscopic survey, named SSA22-HIT, in the SSA22 field with the DEep Imaging MultiObject Spectrograph (DEIMOS) on the Keck telescope, designed to tomographically map high- z H i gas through analysis of Ly α absorption in background

Cosmology with large galaxy redshift surveys

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
Galaxy redshift surveys are a major tool to address the most challenging cosmological problems facing cosmology, like the nature of dark energy and properties dark matter. The same observations are useful for a much larger variety of scientific applications, from the study of small bodies in the solar system, to properties of tidal streams in the Milky

Defect‐Free Block Copolymer‐Based Distributed Bragg Reflector for Optimized Light Harvesting in BiVO4 Photoanodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A solution‐processed distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) film, integrated via block copolymer (BCP) self‐assembly, enhances photon recycling in BiVO4 photoanodes for improved photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. By tuning lamellar structures using lactic acid and cross‐linking density, the DBR film optimally shifts working wavelengths, boosting ...

THE CANADA-FRANCE REDSHIFT SURVEY IX: HST Imaging of High-Redshift Field Galaxies

open access: yes, 1995
HST B and I images are presented of 32 CFRS galaxies with secure redshifts in the range 0.5 < z < 1.2. These galaxies exhibit the same range of morphological types as seen locally, i.e., ellipticals, spirals and irregulars.
