A Redshift Survey of Obscured Galaxies
1997One of the problems for studies of large scale structures in nearby space (cz < 10, 000 km/s) is the presence of the Zone of Avoidance which is so large and wide on the sky that potentially important clusters and large voids have remained undetected. A prime example was the Ophiuchus cluster (cz = 8, 500 km/s), discovered by Wakamatsu and Malkan (1981)

The Durham/UKST Galaxy Redshift Survey
1991We are currently engaged in a long-term project to make a redshift survey of ~ 4000 galaxies based on the Durham/ROE Southern Galaxy Catalogue (Collins et al., 1988) which is a COSMOS survey of the 2D distribution of b j > 20.5m galaxies over 60 UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) fields.

The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey
1999The 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey now in progress is using the Two Degree Field 400-fibre spectrograph (2dF) on the Anglo-Australian Telescope to obtain high-quality spectra and redshifts for 250,000 galaxies. These galaxies are a magnitude-limited sample brighter than b J =19.5 (extinction-corrected) drawn from a revised and extended version of the APM ...
