Short-term heavy drinking in a non-human primate model skews monocytes toward a hypo-inflammatory phenotype

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionAlcohol use is prevalent in the United States (US), with ~80% of persons over 12 years old reporting alcohol consumption in 2023 and ~10% of those individuals developing alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Simultaneous Enhancement of Performance and Stability in Dual‐Gate a‐IGZO Thin‐Film Transistors via Single‐Step Laser Annealing for Capacitor‐Less DRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step laser annealing strategy is presented for dual‐gate a‐IGZO TFTs. The steep thermal gradient induces graded oxygen doping in the channel and simultaneous WOx removal at the contacts, enabling concurrent interface and contact engineering.

The Effects of Alcohol Regulation on Physical Child Abuse [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of alcohol regulation on physical child abuse. Given the established relationship between alcohol consumption and violence, the principal hypothesis to be tested is that an increase in the price of ...

Acid Site Design for Low Hydration Proton Exchange Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
α‐CF2 substitution adjacent to sulfonic acid increases acid strength and enables efficient proton transport under low hydration conditions. This molecular design reduces the dependence of hydrocarbon proton exchange membranes on excessive water uptake, addressing a key limitation of conventional hydrocarbon PEMs while maintaining favorable conductivity

The Price of Alcohol, Wife Abuse, and Husband Abuse [PDF]

open access: yes
Alcohol consumption has been frequently linked to family violence. The purpose of this paper is to examine the direct relationship between the price of alcohol, which determines consumption, and violence towards spouses. The data come from the 1985 cross

Effects of Chronic Alcohol Intake on the Composition of the Ensemble of Drug-Metabolizing Enzymes and Transporters in the Human Liver

open access: yesJournal of Xenobiotics
In this study, to better understand the mechanisms of the profound impact of alcohol consumption on drug pharmacokinetics, efficacy, and toxicity, we characterized the alcohol-induced changes in the ensemble of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters (

Tunable Complementary Doping Strategy Enables High‐Performance Homo‐Channel CMOS in Monolayer WSe2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐selective modulation enables a homo‐channel WSe2 CMOS platform from a single 2D semiconductor. MoOx and AlN tune WSe2 toward p‐ and n‐type operation, respectively, yielding complementary FETs and inverters with balanced switching, high voltage gain, low static power, and promising scalability for 2D logic integration.

Alcohol Taxes and Labor Market Outcomes [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we present estimates of the effect of alcohol taxes on employment, hours of work per week, and wages. These are reduced form estimates derived from a structural model linking alcohol use to labor market outcomes. The reduced form estimates

The effects of different alcoholic drinks on lipids, insulin and haemostatic and inflammatory markers in older men [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Light to moderate drinking is associated with lower risk of coronary heart (CHD) than non-drinkers. We have examined the relationships between total alcohol intake and type of alcoholic beverage and several potential biological mechanisms. We carried out
