A Reduced Model for Salt-Finger Convection in the Small Diffusivity Ratio Limit

open access: yesFluids, 2017
A simple model of nonlinear salt-finger convection in two dimensions is derived and studied. The model is valid in the limit of a small solute to heat diffusivity ratio and a large density ratio, which is relevant to both oceanographic and astrophysical ...

A Hybrid Numerical Methodology Based on CFD and Porous Medium for Thermal Performance Evaluation of Gas to Gas Micro Heat Exchanger

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
In micro heat exchangers, due to the presence of distributing and collecting manifolds as well as hundreds of parallel microchannels, a complete conjugate heat transfer analysis requires a large amount of computational power.

Reduced Animal Models Fitting Only Equations for Phenotyped Animals

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2021
Reduced models are equivalent models to the full model that enable reduction in the computational demand for solving the problem, here, mixed model equations for estimating breeding values of selection candidates. Since phenotyped animals provide data to

A MODEL TO REDUCE EARTHMOVING IMPACTS

open access: yesJOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT, 2020
Meeting increasingly ambitious carbon regulations in the construction industry is particularly challenging for earthmoving operations due to the extensive use of heavy-duty diesel equipment. Better planning of operations and balancing of competing demands linked to environmental concerns, costs, and duration is needed.

Study of the curative role of “Draas” in evacuating dunes threatening roads in the Lower Algerian Sahara: physical model on a smaller scale

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering, 2018
Sand drifting on road networks in the region of the Lower Algerian Sahara is one of the main problems for the sector. Machines are repeatedly deployed to overcome this phenomenon.

In order to improve the efficiency of core physical uncertainty analysis based on sampling statistics, the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and Galerkin projection method were combined to study the application feasibility of reduced-order model based on POD-Galerkin method in core physical uncertainty analysis. The two-dimensional two group TWIGL benchmark question was taken as the research object, the key variation characteristics of the core flux distribution were extracted under the finite perturbation of the group constants of each material region, and the full-order neutron diffusion problem was projected on the variation characteristics to establish a reduced-order neutron diffusion model. The reduced-order model was used to replace the full-order model to carry out the uncertainty analysis of the group constants of the material region. The results show that the bias of the mathematical expectation of keff calculated by reduced-order and full-order models is close to 1 pcm. In addition, compared with the calculation time required for uncertainty analysis of full-order model, the analysis time of reduced-order model (including the calculation time of the full-order model required for the construction of reduced-order model) is only 11.48%, which greatly improves the efficiency of uncertainty analysis. The biases of mathematical expectation of keff calculated by reduced-order and full-order models based on Latin hypercube sampling and simple random sampling are less than 8 pcm, and under the same sample size, the bias from the Latin hypercube sampling result is smaller. From the TWIGL benchmark test results, under the same sample size, Latin hypercube sampling method is more recommended for POD-Galerkin reduced-order model.

Automated scheme for linearisation points selection in TPWL method applied to non-linear circuits

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Trajectory piecewise linear (TPWL) approximation is a well-known model order reduction technique for non-linear systems. It involves weighted summation of the dimensionally reduced linear systems obtained at certain points on the system trajectory.

Reduced models for binocular rivalry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Neuroscience, 2010
Binocular rivalry occurs when two very different images are presented to the two eyes, but a subject perceives only one image at a given time. A number of computational models for binocular rivalry have been proposed; most can be categorised as either "rate" models, containing a small number of variables, or as more biophysically-realistic "spiking ...
