Water‐Efficient Smart Drip Irrigation Enabled by a Low‐Power and High‐Efficiency Flexible Electromagnetic Actuator

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Water scarcity poses a critical threat to global food security. A low‐power, flexible electromagnetic actuator is presented for smart drip irrigation systems. The device achieves precise, wide‐range flow modulation (0.05–5.8 mL/min) in response to real‐time plant demands, reducing water consumption compared to conventional flood irrigation.

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Natural Negative Feedback Loops Confer Indica‐Japonica Differentiation for Grain Size Homeostasis in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the genetic and molecular mechanisms controlling grain size homeostasis through fine‐tuning OsGRX8 self‐expression by two natural negative feedback loops functioning in redox‐dependent or ‐independent manners and identifies two self‐regulatory haplotypes (SRHs) for the subspecies differentiation in rice.

Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration and Distribution, Soil Biological Characteristics, and Winter Wheat Yields Under Different Tillage Practices in Long-Term Field Experiment

open access: yesAgronomy
The organic carbon content of soil (SOC) is considered a key factor for soil health and plays an important role in climate change. Conservation tillage systems promote carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A long-term field experiment

Reduced TILlage and Green MANures for sustainable ORGanic Cropping Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
No-Till (NT) and Reduced Tillage (RT) are conservation tillage practices with a high potential to restore or improve essential soil functions and mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration and reduced fuel use.

Targeting Peptostreptococcus anaerobius with an Iron‐Based Nanozyme Reverses Ferroptosis Resistance and Enhances Antitumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An iron‐based nanozyme selectively eliminates intratumoral P. anaerobius while catalytically generating ROS to induce ferroptosis, synergistically suppressing colorectal cancer growth and activating anti‐tumor immunity through immunogenic cell death. ABSTRACT The intratumoral microbiota is a critical determinant of therapeutic outcomes in colorectal ...

TOGR3, a Proteasome β4 Subunit, Orchestrates Sugar Homeostasis to Trade Off Growth and Thermotolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a novel thermoregulatory mechanism in rice: TOGR3 partners with 26S proteasome subunits, including TT1, to drive thermoresponsive ubiquitin–proteasome activity, maintaining sugar homeostasis in stomatal regulation to balance growth and stress resistance.

Ökologische und ökonomische Auswirkungen des zeitweisen Pflugverzichts beim Anbau von Triticale und Kleegras [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Reduced tillage is often not applied in organic farming, because of expected increased weed pressure and, as a result, decreasing yields. On the other hand, the positive influence of reduced tillage on soils, for example on beneficial soil animals, is ...

The Interplay of Magnetic Order with the Electronic Scattering and Crystal‐Field Effects in a Metallic Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The interplay between magnetic ordering and crystal electric field (CEF) excitations plays a pivotal role in defining the low‐energy electrodynamics of quantum materials. By probing the temperature‐dependent THz conductivity in a rare‐earth‐based metallic ferromagnet, we uncover a microscopic connection between localized and itinerant electrons ...
