Conservation implications of low contemporary connectivity along the Mid‐Atlantic Ridge in hydrothermal vent gastropods

Abstract Polymetallic sulfide deposits produced at hydrothermal vent fields are targets for mining exploitation along the Mid‐Atlantic Ridge, threatening the functioning and resilience of vent ecosystems that provide multiple ecosystem services. Knowledge about connectivity between vents will inform conservation practices.

Exploring legal‐ and health‐risk messaging to reduce demand for elephant skin

Abstract Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) are poached for an illegal trade in their skins, which are used in traditional medicine in Africa and Asia. Prescribed burning shows minor impacts on black pine needle terpenes and pine processionary moth larval survival

Our results highlight that prescribed burning in sub‐Mediterranean pine forests does not affect their resistance to PPM in the short term, either positively or negatively, indicating that it can be implemented to reduce wildfire hazard without influencing forest susceptibility to future PPM outbreaks.
