Size- and Shape-Dependent Antibacterial Studies of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized by Wet Chemical Routes

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2016
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) of different shapes and sizes were prepared by solution-based chemical reduction routes. Silver nitrate was used as a precursor, tri-sodium citrate (TSC) and sodium borohydride as reducing agents, while polyvinylpyrrolidone ...

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Noise reduction method for the heart sound records from digital stethoscope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In recent years, digital instruments have been widely used in the medical area with the rapid development of digital technology. The digital stethoscope, which converts the acoustic sound waves in to electrical signals and then amplifies them, is ...

On Balancing and Order Reduction of Unstable Periodic Systems

open access: yes, 2001
Abstract: We consider the direct application of balancing techniques to unstable periodic systems by extending the balancing concepts to arbitrary periodic systems. We extend first the balancing concepts to unstable discrete-time systems by defining the

Effectiveness of active flow control for turbulent skin friction drag reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The effectiveness of the opposition control method proposed by Choi et al. [J. Fluid Mech. 262, 75 (1994)] has been studied using direct numerical simulations.

Existence of normalized peak solutions for a coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis
In this article, we study the following nonlinear Schrödinger system −Δu1+V1(x)u1=αu1u2+μu1,x∈R4,−Δu2+V2(x)u2=α2u12+βu22+μu2,x∈R4,\left\{\begin{array}{ll}-\Delta {u}_{1}+{V}_{1}\left(x){u}_{1}=\alpha {u}_{1}{u}_{2}+\mu {u}_{1},& x\in {{\mathbb{R}}}^{4},\\

Application of near critical behavior of equilibrium ratios to phase equilibrium calculations

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2019
We examine the asymptotic behavior of the equilibrium ratios (Ki) near the convergence locus in the pressure-temperature plane. When the Equation of State (EoS) is analytical, which is the case of most EoS of engineering purpose, Ki tends towards unity ...

Health‐Related Quality of Life and Symptom Severity Among Patients With PIK3CA‐Related Overgrowth Spectrum: A Mixed‐Methods Study to Understand Real‐World Experience With Alpelisib Treatment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background PIK3CA‐related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) includes several rare overgrowth disorders resulting from somatic gain‐of‐function mutations in PIK3CA. Despite treatment advances, including the recent approval of alpelisib for PROS in the United States, literature detailing the patient experience with PROS is limited.

On sums of k-generalized Fibonacci and k-generalized Lucas numbers as first and second kinds of Thabit numbers [PDF]

open access: yesNotes on Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics
Let (Fᵣ⁽ᵏ⁾)ᵣ≥2-k and (Lᵣ⁽ᵏ⁾)ᵣ≥2-k be generalizations of the Fibonacci and Lucas sequences, where k≥2. For these sequences the initial k terms are 0,0,...,0, 1 and 0,0,...,2,1, and each subsequent term is the sum of the preceding k terms.

On the Optimality of the Dimensionality Reduction Method [PDF]

open access: yes2006 47th Annual IEEE Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS'06), 2006
We investigate the optimality of (1+\in )-approximation algorithms obtained via the dimensionality reduction method. We show that: --Any data structure for the (1+\in )-approximate nearest neighbor problem in Hamming space, which uses constant number of probes to answer each query, must use n^{\Omega \left( {1/ \in ^2 } \right)} space.
