Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination - A Broader Perspective
2006Enhanced reductive dechlorination of chlorinated compounds has been applied via in situ engineered anaerobic systems in increasing numbers over the past decade. Knowledge gained from these field applications, combined with academic literature, allows us to have a broader understanding of the technology.

Enrichment, Cultivation, and Detection of Reductively Dechlorinating Bacteria
2005Strategies and procedures for enriching, isolating, and cultivating reductively dechlorinating bacteria that use chloroorganic compounds as metabolic electron acceptors from environmental samples are described. Further, nucleic acid-based approaches used to detect and quantify dechlorinator (i.e., Dehalococcoides)-specific genes are presented.

Reductive dechlorination of 4-chlororesorcinol by anaerobic microorganisms
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1987Abstract The anaerobic dechlorination of 4-chlororesorcinol (4-Cl-Res) to resorcinol (1,3-dihydroxybenzene) by fresh anaerobic digester sludge and by an enriched microbial culture was studied. Complete dechlorination of 50 ppm 4-Cl-Res in fresh sludge required about four weeks and occurred without a lag. An anaerobic community capable of

Iron Reduction Coupled to Reductive Dechlorination in Red Soil
Soil Science, 2014Iron reduction plays an important role in the reductive transformation of organochlorine pesticides in red paddy soils. This interaction between iron reduction and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in red soils in south China is particularly important because of the high abundance and reactivity of iron within unique man-made paddy ecosystems.

Effect of cadmium on reductive dechlorination of trichloroaniline
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1996Abstract The effect of a transition metal, cadmium (Cd), on reductive dechlorination of a model chlorinated organic, 2,3,4-trichloroaniline (2,3,4-TCA), was determined in the laboratory in three anaerobic, flooded soils with varying properties.

Bacterial growth based on reductive dechlorination of trichlorobenzenes
Biodegradation, 2000An anaerobic mixed bacterial culture was enriched for bacteria dechlorinating 1,2,3- and 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (TCB) to dichlorobenzenes by exclusive use of non-fermentable substrates and the application of vancomycin. Growth and dechlorination occurred in a purely synthetic medium with formate or hydrogen, acetate, and TCB.

Abstract The potential role of methanogens and sulfate reducers in polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) dechlorination was investigated using the specific inhibitors 2-bromoethanesulfonate for methanogens and molybdate for sulfate reducers and the most probable number technique. Sediments were spiked with Aroclor® 1248 (300 μg/g).
