Analysis and Software Development of System Failure Probability Correction Considering Common Cause Failure

open access: yesModelling
Common cause failure (CCF) is concealed and harmful. With the increase in the number of redundant systems in aircraft, quantifying the impact of CCF is crucial for accurately calculating system failure probabilities.

Software engineering : redundancy is key

open access: yes, 2013
Software engineers are humans and so they make lots of mistakes. Typically 1 out of 10 to 100 tasks go wrong. The only way to avoid these mistakes is to introduce redundancy in the software engineering process. This article is a plea to consciously introduce several levels of redundancy for each programming task.

A −40 to 250°C Triple Modular Redundancy Temperature Sensor for Turbofan Engines

open access: yes2018 31st Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems Design (SBCCI), 2018
Turbofan engines using distributed control architecture require sensors and electronic instrumentation located in the engine compartment to simplify system design, improve reliability, and ease signal multiplexing. Designing a wide range temperature sensor which works reliably regardless of process variation can be extremely challenging.

Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...

Infusible Extracellular Matrix Biomaterial Enhances Cell‐Specific Pro‐Repair Responses Following Acute Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We measure the cell‐specific responses of administering infusible ECM (iECM) in acute myocardial infarction (MI) across multiple timepoints. Using single‐nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, we measure macrophage activation, fibroblast remodeling, increased vascular development, lymphangiogenesis, cardioprotection, and neurogenesis ...

Nonlocal Conduction in a Metawire

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
A 1D metawire composed of twisted copper wires is designed and realized. This metamaterial exhibits pronounced effects of nonlocal electric conduction according to Ohm's law. The current at one location not only depends on the electric field at that location but also on other locations.
