Reed-Solomon convolutional codes

open access: yesProceedings. International Symposium on Information Theory, 2005. ISIT 2005., 2005
In this paper we will introduce a specific class of cyclic convolutional codes. The construction is based on Reed-Solomon block codes. The algebraic parameters as well as the distance of these codes are determined. This shows that some of these codes are optimal or near optimal.

Reed–Solomon Codes

open access: yes

The Comeback of Reed Solomon Codes

2018 IEEE 25th Symposium on Computer Arithmetic (ARITH), 2018
Distributed storage systems utilize erasure codes to reduce their storage costs while efficiently handling failures. Many of these codes (e. g., Reed-Solomon (RS) codes) rely on Galois Field (GF) arithmetic, which is considered to be fast when the field characteristic is 2.

On sharing secrets and Reed-Solomon codes

open access: yesCommunications of the ACM, 1981
Shamir's scheme for sharing secrets is closely related to Reed-Solomon coding schemes. Decoding algorithms for Reed-Solomon codes provide extensions and generalizations of Shamir's method.

Convolutional Reed-Solomon Codes

Bell System Technical Journal, 1969
We derive a new family of convolutional character-error-correcting codes which are a convolutional form of the Reed-Solomon block codes and as such have nonbinary symbols. We also derive a bound on the error correcting capabilities of these codes in which the error-correcting capability per constraint length grows approximately with the square root of ...

On decoding of Reed-Solomon codes

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1971
It is shown how nonsystematic Reed-Solomon (RS) codes encoded by means of the Chinese remainder theorem can be decoded using the Berlekamp algorithm. The Chien search and calculation of error values are not needed but are replaced by a polynomial division and added calculation in determining the syndrome.
