Foundations of Ecological and Evolutionary Change
We link the fundamental equations of population ecology and evolution with an equation that sums how individual characteristics interact with individual fitness in a population. From this equation, we derive the fundamental equations of population ecology and evolutionary biology (the Price equation).

Abstract Mafic eclogites of the Tauern Window in the Eastern Alps preserve vein networks associated with eclogite‐facies mineral assemblages. The structural and mineralogical diversity of these veins is encapsulated by Type I veins, which resemble deformed tension gashes, and Type II quartz segregates with non‐planar morphologies. Within host eclogites,

A reduction theorem for the Character Triple Conjecture
Abstract In this paper, we show that the Character Triple Conjecture holds for all finite groups once assumed for all quasi‐simple groups. This answers the question on the existence of a self‐reducing form of Dade's conjecture, a problem that was extensively investigated by Dade in the 1990s.

Key Points Synchrotron nano‐imaging is necessary to locate elemental nanophases. Trace metal quantification requires high sensitivity nano‐XRF. Trace metal speciation relies on nano‐XANES using nano‐XRF. This chapter (Nano‐Imaging for Advanced X‐ray Fluorescence and Absorption Spectroscopy Applications) is a contribution to the Geostandards and ...

On fixed‐point‐free involutions in actions of finite exceptional groups of Lie type
Abstract Let G$G$ be a nontrivial transitive permutation group on a finite set Ω$\Omega$. By a classical theorem of Jordan, G$G$ contains a derangement, which is an element with no fixed points on Ω$\Omega$. Given a prime divisor r$r$ of |Ω|$|\Omega |$, we say that G$G$ is r$r$‐elusive if it does not contain a derangement of order r$r$. In a paper from

On some properties of the asymptotic Samuel function
Abstract The asymptotic Samuel function generalizes to arbitrary rings the usual order function of a regular local ring. Here, we explore some natural properties in the context of excellent, equidimensional rings containing a field. In addition, we establish some results regarding the Samuel slope of a local ring.

Hilbert–Kunz multiplicity of powers of ideals in dimension two
Abstract We study the behavior of the Hilbert–Kunz multiplicity of powers of an ideal in a local ring. In dimension 2, we provide answers to some problems raised by Smirnov, and give a criterion to answer one of his questions in terms of a “Ratliff–Rush version” of the Hilbert–Kunz multiplicity.

Levels and sublevels of composition algebras [PDF]
Lewis' and Leep's bounds on the level and sublevel of quaternion algebras are extended to the class of composition algebras. Some simple constructions of composition algebras of known level values are given.

Gorensteinness in Rees algebras of powers of parameter ideals [PDF]
This paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition for Gorensteinness in Rees algebras of the $d$-th power of parameter ideals in certain Noetherian local rings of dimension $d\ge 2$.
