The importance of the refeeding syndrome

Nutrition, 2001
In this review we discuss the refeeding syndrome. This potentially lethal condition can be defined as severe electrolyte and fluid shifts associated with metabolic abnormalities in malnourished patients undergoing refeeding, whether orally, enterally, or parenterally. It can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Refeeding Syndrome or Refeeding Hypophosphatemia

Nutrition in Clinical Practice, 2012

Starvation ketoacidosis and refeeding syndrome

BMJ Case Reports, 2021
Starvation ketoacidosis (SKA) is a rarer cause of ketoacidosis. Most patients will only have a mild acidosis, but if exacerbated by stress can result in a severe acidosis. We describe a 66-year-old man admitted with reduced consciousness and found to have a severe metabolic acidosis with raised anion gap.
