Some Observations on the Concepts of Information-Theoretic Entropy and Randomness

open access: yesEntropy, 2001
: Certain aspects of the history, derivation, and physical application of the information-theoretic entropy concept are discussed. Pre-dating Shannon, the concept is traced back to Pauli.

A Simple Methodology to Develop Bifilar, Quadrifilar, and Octofilar Calculable Resistors

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
This paper describes the development of bifilar, quadrifilar, and octofilar Calculable Resistors (CRs). The research involves Evanohm-S and Isaohm wire heat treatment processes to achieve temperature coefficients less than 0.5 μ Ω / Ω

Ex Ante Allusions

open access: yesAesthetic Investigations, 2015
We tend to think of allusions as indirect references to objects that already exist. Here I argue against this post facto orthodoxy and for the view that certain cases of allusion count as ex ante allusions (i.e. allusions before the fact).

Age- and sex-dependent reference intervals for uric acid estimated by the truncated minimum chi-square (TMC) approach, a new indirect method

open access: yesJournal of Laboratory Medicine, 2020
Although the concentration of uric acid in serum or plasma is known to depend on sex and age and is subject to diurnal variation, the influence of these covariates on the reference interval (RI) is often neglected.

Reference-Dependent Preferences and the Transmission of Monetary Policy [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
This paper proposes a novel explanation of the vast empirical evidence showing that output and prices react asymmetrically to monetary policy innovations over contractions and expansions in the business cycle. We use VAR techniques to show that monetary policy exerts stronger e¤ects on the U.S.

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Reference Dependence in the Housing Market

open access: yesAmerican Economic Review, 2022
We quantify reference dependence and loss aversion in the housing market using rich Danish administrative data. Our structural model includes loss aversion, reference dependence, financial constraints, and a sale decision, and matches key nonparametric moments, including a “hockey stick” in listing prices with nominal gains, and bunching at zero ...

Personalized Selumetinib Dosing in Pediatric Neurofibromatosis Type 1: Insights From a Pilot Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate selumetinib exposure using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in pediatric patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas (PN), assess interpatient pharmacokinetic variability, and explore the relationship between drug exposure, clinical response, and adverse effects.

Comparison of the Impacts of Aspects of Prospect Theory on WTP/WTAEstimated in Preference and WTP/WTA Space

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research, 2010
The importance of willingness to pay (WTP) and its counterpart willingness to accept (WTA), in the evaluation of policy measures has led to a constant stream of research examining survey methods and model specifications seeking to capture and explain the
