A balanced non-cephalic reference electrode
Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1951Abstract A method is described for minimizing cardiac potential by balancing the voltage between two points on opposite sides of the heart. Advantage can be taken of the cancellation thus obtained to utilize the base of the neck as a common reference for EEG recording.

The influence of the reference electrode on CMAP configuration
Muscle & Nerve, 1993AbstractThe ulnar, hypothenar compound muscle action potential often shows a double‐peaked configuration in the negative phase component while the median, thenar potential has a simple dome shape. To investigate the origin of these differences we evaluated the activity at the belly and tendon electrode locations by referencing those sites to an ...

A student-prepared silver–silver chloride reference electrode is described. The chemical deposition of AgCl(s) onto Ag(s) is accomplished in 30–50 s by placement of a Ag(s) wire in laundry bleach.

Reference Electrodes for Aqueous Solutions
2013The standard hydrogen electrode (SHE) acts as a primary reference in electrochemistry. The standard potentials of all other reference electrodes are linked to that of the SHE at the same temperature. The SHE contribution to the cell potential is by convention zero at all temperatures (see Chap. 1).

Tungsten reference electrodes (TREs) were prepared by dipping tungsten wires into buffered solutions. The use of these electrodes for voltammetric and potentiometric measurements was compared to that of silver-silver chloride, silver-silver nitrate, and saturated calomel electrodes (SCEs).
