Platelet function investigation by flow cytometry: Sample volume, needle size, and reference intervals

open access: yesPlatelets, 2018
Flow cytometry is an increasingly used method for platelet function analysis because it has some important advantages compared with other platelet function tests.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Determination of reference interval for presepsin, an early marker for sepsis

open access: yesBiochemia Medica, 2015
Introduction Presepsin, the circulating soluble form of CD14 subtype (sCD14-ST) is a new emerging early marker for sepsis. Various cutoff levels of presepsin have been proposed, to discriminate between systemic bacterial and nonbacterial infectious ...

The Origin of Reference Intervals

open access: yesArchives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 2007
Abstract Context.—Standards have been developed for establishing reference intervals, but little is known about how intervals are determined in practice, interlaboratory variation in intervals, or errors that occur while setting reference intervals.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Hematology and Heights – A Concern for People Living at High Altitude

open access: yesCurrent Medical Issues
Background: Hemoglobin (Hb) values are higher in people living at an altitude as compared to inhabitants living at sea level, therefore, to define anemia and polycythemia based on Hb cutoffs may be different in both areas.

Development of the electroweak phase transition and baryogenesis

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate the evolution of the electroweak phase transition, using a one-Higgs effective potential that can be regarded as an approximation for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.
