Refill friction stir spot welding of 5083-O aluminum alloy

Journal of Materials Science and Technology, 2018
Abstract In this work, refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW) was used to weld 2 mm-thick 5083-O alloy. The Box–Behnken experimental design was used to investigate the effect of welding parameters on the joint lap shear property. Results showed that a surface indentation of 0.3 mm effectively eliminated the welding defects.

Formability and mechanical property of refill friction stir spot–welded joints

Welding in the World, 2021
The effects of rotation speed and plunge depth on macro/microstructures and mechanical properties of dissimilar 2195/2219 aluminum alloy joints produced by refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW) were investigated. The results show that some shallow annular grooves present on the joint surfaces depending on the process parameters.

Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding of Similar and Dissimilar Alloys: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesActa Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters), 2019
Refill friction stir spot welding, also known as friction spot welding (FSpW), is a solid-state welding process suitable for spot joining of lightweight materials. Through the efforts of improving joint quality for similar and dissimilar materials, for example, aluminum and magnesium, this joining technology is well developed. The joining mechanism and

Friction Stir Spot Welding of AA2024-T3 with Modified Refill Technique

Key Engineering Materials, 2020
The quality of welded joints of FSSW is mainly dependent on the processing parameters while the main disadvantage of this process is the creation of an exit hole. Process parameters, namely tool dimensions, tool rotational speed, and stir time were changed and their impact on bond dimensions and weld strength was investigated using 2024-T3 Al Alloy ...

Refill friction stir spot welding of aerospace alloys in the presence of interfacial sealant

Welding in the World, 2021
Refill friction stir spot welding (refill FSSW) is one of the most industrially promising friction stir spot welding variants. The absence of an exit hole improves the effectiveness of surface treatments and minimizes damage by fouling. Aerospace aluminium alloys AA2024-T3 and AA7075-T6 with a thickness of 2 mm were used in this investigation.

Improvement of refill friction stir spot welds by auxiliary material addition

Materials Science and Technology, 2020
An innovative technology to improve the bonding of refill friction stir spot welding by auxiliary material addition was proposed. The annular groove was eliminated and the energy absorption was increased. Weld bonding was enhanced because the improved technology affected the hook, retractable line and stir zone (SZ) shape significantly: (1) the ...

Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding Dissimilar Al/Mg Alloys

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2019
Dissimilar Al/Mg alloys were joined by refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW) in this work. The effect of sleeve plunge depth on microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints was studied. The results showed that sound joint can be obtained at sleeve plunge depth of 2.4 mm.

Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding of 2198-T8 Aluminum Alloy

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2017
Refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW) technology was used to weld 2 mm-thick 2198-T8 aluminum alloy in this work. As one of the most significant factors affecting the joint mechanical properties, effect of the tool rotating speeds on microstructure and mechanical properties of the RFSSW joint was mainly discussed.
