Refining the stress state of multilayer shells using finite-shear theory

Soviet Applied Mechanics, 1987
There is still an urgent need to develop a theory for the calculation of multilayer shells distinguished by simplicity of the formulas and equations and yet taking account of the specific deformational features of operation of the given structure. The present work outlines a method allowing the results for the theoretical stress in multilayer shells ...

A Refined Shear Deformation Theory of Bending of Isotropic Plates*

Mechanics of Structures and Machines, 1994
ABSTRACT A nonlinear, in-plane displacement assumption is proposed, based on an undetermined variation df/dz of transverse shear strains through the plate thickness. A second-order ordinary differential equation for f(z) and two surface conditions, as well as a set of eighth-order partial differential equations and four associated boundary conditions ...

Geometrically Nonlinear Study of Functionally Graded Saturated Porous Plates Based on Refined Shear Deformation Plate Theory and Biot’s Theory

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2022
This research presents the geometrically nonlinear investigation of functionally graded saturated porous material (FGSPM) plate under undrained conditions. In conjunction with von Karman’s nonlinearity, the refined shear deformation plate theory (RSDPT) is implemented to model the FGSPM plate.

A refined nonlinear theory of plates with transverse shear deformation

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1984
A higher-order shear deformation theory of plates accounting for the von Kármán strains is presented. The theory contains the same dependent unknowns as in the Hencky-Mindlin type first-order shear deformation theory and accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shear strains through the thickness of the plate.

Analytical solution of a refined shear deformation theory for rectangular composite plates

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1987
The Lévy type solution procedure in conjunction with the state-space concept is used to determine the deflections and stresses for symmetric laminated composite plates with rectangular geometries by using a refined shear deformation theory. Combinations of simply supported, clamped and free boundary conditions are considered.

On the refined first-order shear deformation plate theory of Kármán type

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2000
A large deflection theory for laminated plates is set up taking into account transverse shear rotations. Each shear strain component is assumed to depend on the corresponding shear force only, and the shear correction factors are set equal for both directions.

Hygro-thermo-mechanical buckling of laminated beam using hyperbolic refined shear deformation theory

Composite Structures, 2020
Abstract In this paper, the buckling of cross-ply and angle-ply composite beams under hygro-thermo-mechanical loading is presented by the analytical approach. This approach is based on theory of hyperbolic refined shear deformation. This approach which has strong resemblance with beam theory of Euler Bernoulli in various aspects, accounts for a ...

Calculation of interlaminar shear stresses in laminated shallow shell panel using refined higher order shear deformation theory

Composite Structures, 2015
Abstract In general, calculation of inter-laminar shear stresses in laminated shells using 2D finite element models involves cumbersome post processing techniques. This paper presents a simple and efficient method for accurate evaluation of transverse shear stresses in laminated composite shallow shells by using a displacement based C0 2D FE model ...

A Review of Refined Shear Deformation Theories for Isotropic and Anisotropic Laminated Beams

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2001
A review of displacement and stress based refined theories for isotropic and anisotropic laminated beams is presented. Various equivalent single layer and layerwise theories for laminated beams are discussed together with their merits and demerits. Exact elasticity solutions for the beam problems are cited, wherever available.
