Background: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening syndrome of uncontrolled immune activation causing fever, cytopenias, hepatosplenomegaly, and organ dysfunction. Diagnosis is made using the HLH-2004 or -2009 criteria.
