Oxygen scavenging, grain refinement and mechanical properties improvement in powder metallurgy titanium and titanium alloys with CaB6

Powder Technology, 2018
Abstract The effect of calcium hexa boride (CaB6) on microstructure and mechanical properties of powder metallurgy CP-Ti and Ti-6Al-4 V was studied. CaB6 can scavenge the solid solution O during sintering, producing Ca-Ti-O and TiB second phases. These Ca-containing particles precipitate in the grain boundary to inhibit grain growth, resulting in the

Refining And Recycling Metallurgy In The Future

1992
Abstract Refining metallurgy deals with the treatment of the extracted or recycled metal by purification and alloying. Traditionally, the refining metallurgist has had a good knowledge of extractive metallurgy and of the impurities present in the raw metal.

Impurity scavenging, microstructural refinement and mechanical properties of powder metallurgy titanium and titanium alloys by a small addition of cerium silicide

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2013
Abstract A small addition (≤0.5 wt%) of cerium silicide (CeSi 2 ) to powder metallurgy (PM) commercially pure Ti (CP-Ti), Ti–6Al–4V and Ti–10V–2Fe–3Al (all in wt%) results in substantial microstructural refinement and noticeably improved ductility with marginally improved sintered density. CeSi 2 is unstable and decomposes between 1423 K and 1473 K.

Development of Al-TiC Alloys Using Powder Metallurgy as Grain Refiners for Aluminium and Its Alloys

2013
Al-Ti-C master alloys have been widely investigated for many years as grain refiner for aluminium and its alloys. In this work, the Al-Ti-C master alloys are synthesized using powder metallurgy technique through the mixing of aluminium and TiC powders with different TiC contents 3.75 (3), 5(4), 6.25(5) and 7.5(6) Wt% TiC(Wt% Ti).

Effect of extrusion ratio on the grain refinement and properties of copper prepared by powder metallurgy route

The present study emphasizes determining the optimum value of the extrusion ratio for superior microstructure and mechanical properties of copper via the synergistic effect of powder metallurgy and extrusion process. In this study, sintered Cu is hot extruded for different extrusion ratios, from 2.8 to 11.1.
